Maserati Ghibli Interior & Features
Inside, the cabin of the Maserati Ghibli might not be the flashiest in its segment, but its minimalist design still looks and feels very premium. It comes with an abundance of soft-touch materials all around. Similar to the exterior, the Trofeo variant comes with Pieno Fiore natural leather sport seats with sporty red trims, while the GT hybrid gets a blue stitching. The Trofeo variant also features embossed Trofeo logos on its seats’ headrests for a more prestigious feel. Regardless of the material and finish, the Ghibli model line’s seats provide top-notch comfort and support for everyone on board.
In terms of practicality, the front row is a very nice place to be in, while the second row has enough space for two passengers. However, seating three large and tall passengers at the back might not be ideal because of a large central tunnel, which limits legroom. Its trunk space is also a bit limited.
On the plus side, however, you get state-of-the-art tech features that enhance the overall experience inside the cabin. The Ghibli comes with an HD infotainment display, which offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Maserati Intelligent Assistant, and Maserati Connect. Owners have the option between a Harman Kardon Premium Sound system or a Bowers and Wilkins Surround Sound system.
Meanwhile, drivers have access to a classy-looking cockpit, which includes a carbon fibre sport steering wheel with multiple controls, a semi-digital instrument panel, and a modern-looking gear lever. Its dashboard also comes with physical controls for a more balanced feel. This luxury sports sedan also comes with a WI-FI connection and a wireless charger for an added layer of functionality and convenience.
Ghibli Exterior
In terms of dimensions, all variants of the Maserati Ghibli are 4,971 mm in length, 2,128 mm in width with the side mirrors out, and 1,461 mm in height. This luxury sports sedan has a 2,998-mm wheelbase. The Trofeo variant runs on sporty-looking 20-inch wheels for a more premium appearance, while the rest are given 18-inch wheels.
Upfront, the Maserati Ghibli flaunts the Italian brand’s iconic Trident emblem that is embedded in its signature front grille with classy chrome accents. This luxury sports sedan features a very assertive-looking flare courtesy of its full LED adaptive matrix headlights, which use the power of 15 LEDs for top-notch visibility on the road. The Trofeo variant comes with an exclusive bonnet with air extractors for a sportier and more premium facade.
On the sides, all variants come with triple air vents. The Trofeo variant has red air vents, while the GT Hybrid features the blue version for a more distinct silhouette. Sharp character lines and a beautiful contrast of colours give its side profile more depth. This luxury sports sedan also has another Maserati Saetta emblem on its C-pillar. Similar to the air vents, the Trofeo has a red lightning bolt on its emblem, while the GT Hybrid gets the blue counterpart.
Meanwhile, it features a classy, distinct-looking back end, accentuated by boomerang-shaped LED tail lights. This luxury sports sedan gets a power tailgate for easier loading and unloading of cargo. Additionally, a quad exhaust system adds more sportiness to its overall appearance.
Maserati Ghibli Ride & Handling
In terms of suspension, all models except for the Trofeo variant come with MacPherson Struts at the front and Multi-Links at the rear. The Trofeo variant features Maserati’s Skyhook suspension setup for a more enhanced driving experience overall.
Regardless of the setup, this luxury sports sedan handles sharp turns or corners with ease and precision. It delivers impressive grip and control even at high speeds. Its steering is also responsive. Meanwhile, in the city, it is maneuverable and can absorb bumps and other road imperfections quite well. Overall, this vehicle can offer a pliant and very comfortable riding experience for all occupants both in the city and on the highway.
Ghibli Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Maserati Ghibli comes in three powertrain options. First, the Trofeo variant is powered by a 3.8L V8 engine that produces a maximum power output of 580 hp and a maximum torque of 730 Nm. Its max speed is 326 kmph.
Second, the Modena variants are powered by a 3L V6 engine that is tuned differently, resulting in different power and torque outputs. The Modena S and Modena S Q4 variants’ V6 engine produces 430 hp and 580 Nm of torque. Both variants have a max speed of 286 kmph. On the other hand, the base Modena gets a V6 engine that produces 350 hp and 500 Nm of torque. This variant has a top speed of 267 kmph.
Third, the GT Hybrid variant runs on a mild-hybrid system that combines a 2L, 4-cylinder engine with a 48V motor. Its hybrid powertrain generates a maximum power output of 330 hp and a maximum torque of 450 Nm. Its max speed is 255 kmph.
All variants run on a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission system. In terms of drivetrain, the Modena S Q4 variant utilizes an all-wheel drivetrain, while the rest run on rear-wheel drive. This model line comes with three driving modes: Normal, Sport, and I.C.E (Increased Control and Efficiency). The Trofeo variant also comes with a Corsa mode.
Regardless of the powertrain, the Maserati Ghibli offers a lively and very satisfying cruising experience on the open road. Its powertrains produce a very eargasmic roar, which can definitely catch the attention of fellow drivers and regular bystanders nearby. You’ll be able to overtake slower vehicles on free-flowing highways with this luxury sports sedan. Additionally, its cabin remains quiet and peaceful even at high speeds thanks to its top-notch sound insulation system. All things considered, the Ghibli can be an enjoyable and very refined vehicle in the city if you never worry about fuel costs.
Maserati Ghibli Braking & Safety
The Maserati Ghibli is equipped with Level 2 advanced driving assistance systems, which is the ‘highest level of autonomous driving currently permitted.’ This includes an active driver assist, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, front and side impact beams, and a 360-degree camera among others.
This luxury sports sedan comes with Brembo brake calipers for top-notch stopping power even at high speeds. Its braking setup is supported by an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, and a brake assist.
Ghibli Verdict
The Maserati Ghibli offers a sweet spot for discerning buyers who are looking for a mid-size luxury sports sedan that can offer an impressive balance of refinement and performance on the road. In my opinion, it is a vehicle that you should consider if you aim to stand out from the crowd.
