Ford issues ‘Do Not Drive’ advisory on select Bronco models over faulty suspension assembly woes

MANILA: Ford is advising owners of Ford Bronco units to stop driving their vehicles immediately over suspension-related concerns that could result in crashes.

The “Do Not Drive" advisory involves around 4,653 examples of 2021-2026 Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick models in the United States and federal territories.  

According to the Blue Oval marque, the front lower control arm ball joints of the affected vehicles’ suspension system may not have been assembled correctly.

“If a joint fails while the vehicle is moving, the driver could lose steering control increasing the risk of a crash,” Ford explained.

According to the American automaker, it is currently providing customers with complimentary towing of their vehicles for inspection and repair as needed. “Customers will also be provided the option to have their vehicle inspected by dealership personnel at the customer’s location via mobile service where applicable,” Ford noted. 

Under the recall order, Ford dealers will visually inspect—and repair if necessary—the front lower control arm ball joint assembly on both the left and right sides at no cost to customers.

‘Ford PH not affected’

Relatedly, Ford Philippines said that no model in the local market is affected by the newest recall order since the company is not selling this specific trim.

Released in 2024, the Ford Bronco that entered the Philippine market is the Outerbanks with Sasquatch Package version. This option comes with high performance off-road stability suspension system with position-sensitive Bilstein shock absorbers. 

Powering the vehicle is a 2.7-liter V6 engine with Ecoboost mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. This mill has the capacity to deliver:

Maximum output (in horsepower)	330
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	555

Further, the lone Ford Bronco offering in the country is equipped with a myriad of technologies that include:

• Evasive steer assist
• Lane keep system
• Pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, and dynamic brake support
• Hill start assist
• Advancetrac system with roll stability control
• Airbags: front and side (first row), side canopy, and curtain type (all rows)
