Does production of Mazda CX-30 in Thailand indicate PH availability?
MANILA: As soon as Mazda teased the automobile space with its upcoming crossover, there was quite a buzz in the air regarding the newest Mazda. The anticipation was at its highest, wasn’t it? To put an end to all the wait, anticipation, and eagerness, Mazda, at last, unveiled what turned out to be the CX-30 at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The newest crossover in the Mazda portfolio has been slotted right between the CX-3 and CX-5 and the automobile markets around the world await their turn to get their hands on the all-new Mazda CX-30.
So what about the Philippines then? When will we receive our fair share? Well, reports suggest that Mazda will start the production of the CX-30 by November, later this year at the AutoAlliance facility in Thailand. With the Mazda2 and the BT-50 already being sourced from Thailand, the possibilities of the Mazda CX-30 to make its way to the Philippines seem to be very high.
Other models by the Japanese automaker like the Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-3, CX-5, CX-9, and the MX-5, however, are still being brought in the Philippines from Japan. Due to the shorter distance between the Philippines and Thailand, sourcing the all-new Mazda CX-30 from Thailand will significantly impact the transportation cost and other tariffs. Both the automaker and the customers will be benefited from the move.
Mentioning the details about the all-new Mazda CX-30, the crossover comes underpinned by the Mazda3 platform. Furthermore, the powertrain on the Japanese crossover comprises of either a 2.0-litre or 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G inline-four gasoline-fed engine. Transmission options include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox. For the diesel-fanatics, there is also an optional 1.8-litre SkyActiv-D turbo-diesel motor, which we have already seen on the Mazda CX-3.
Another hint at the arrival of the Mazda CX-30 in the Philippines is the removal of Mazda CX-3 from the automaker’s official website. Hence, instead of launching the revisited CX-3, Mazda Philippines might simply bring in the newer, bigger, and better CX-30 for the Filipinos.
Let’s wait till the production of the all-new Mazda CX-30 starts in Thailand and hope for Mazda Philippines to source the latest crossover to the country. Another entry in the already ballooning SUV and crossover segment won’t hurt, would it? Did you know about the recent unveiling of the refreshed Mazda2 in Japan? Well, the updated hatchback looks better than before and should be hitting the Filipino shores very soon. Read more about the revisited hatchback here.
