Faster release of plates and OR/CR of new cars will be made possible by DOTr’s new PRMIS and its cooperation with the LTO and car dealerships.Who mandated this improvement in license plate and OR/CR releasing?
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the DOTr to accelerate the release process for vehicle plates and documents. The aforementioned will be made possible through the rollout of the Plate Registration Management Information System (PRMIS), which the government agency has set up together with the LTO. Additionally, the DOTr stated that the faster release of the aforementioned documents will also become a reality, thanks to the cooperation of local car dealerships.
As further shared by DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon, new car buyers will no longer have to wait for months or years to receive their vehicle’s plates and OR/CR. According to the government executive, the aforementioned was achieved through the mass digitalization of the DOTR, which includes the development and eventual national rollout of the PRMIS.
“Sa ating mga motorista, makaka-asa kayo - ngayong pinilit tayo ng Pangulong Bongbong Marcos na gumawa ng paraan para pabilisin ang release ng plaka. Maximum three days makukuha niyo na ang inyong mga plaka, (To our motorists, you can expect - now that we have been ordered by President Bongbong Marcos to hasten the release of license plates, that it will only take a maximum of three days for you to get your plates)” Dizon said.

As of the moment, the DOTr has yet to share as to when the new three-day releasing timeline via the PRMIS will be officially launched. Dizon, however, disclosed that it will be rolled out for the entire country in “the coming days.”
For the unaware, the slow rollout of license plates has been a persistent issue hounding the government since 2014. The DOTr and the LTO, however, has taken the necessary steps to combat the issue.
A few days ago, prior to the PRMIS announcement, the LTO claimed that it had finally resolved its license plate backlog issue. As of June 30, the agency has already produced a total of 18,578,615 plates. Out of the said figure, 11,815,068 were motorcycle plates, and 6,763,544 were motor vehicle plates.
