EVAP invites global EV battery makers to invest in PH
Organization said the country is ready to contribute to the global EV supply chain
MANILA: The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) has called on global electric vehicle battery manufacturers to invest in the Philippine economy. The said invitation from EVAP comes amid the continued local growth of the electric vehicle (EV) market driven by brands such as BYD, Jetour, MG, GWM, and Kia - among others.

When it comes to raw materials, in particular, the EV-focused group cited the country's rich reserves of nickel and cobalt, which are crucial in producing batteries.
“With the rapid adoption of electric vehicles in Southeast Asia, the demand for EV batteries is surging. The Philippines is in a strong position to become a key player in the global battery supply chain,” EVAP President Edmund Araga said.
“We have the resources, the talent, and the strategic location to serve not just the local market but also the broader Southeast Asian region,” Araga added.
Additionally, the EVAP President highlighted the efforts of the Philippine government to improve its ability to support large-scale projects while maintaining environmental standards.
“Our call is clear. The Philippines is ready. We are open for business and eager to welcome global partners who share our vision for a sustainable, electrified future. Together, we can drive the future of mobility in Southeast Asia and beyond,” Araga stated further.
As mentioned above, the local EV market has grown quite a bit in recent years. One clear example is ACMobility-led BYD’s whopping 8,900 percent volume growth compared to its previous performance in 2023.
Additionally, Tesla - one of the largest EV carmakers in the world, made waves by entering the country with a two-car lineup last year.
