GAC, FAW establish strategic partnership

MANILA: Guangzhou Automobile Industry (GAC) Group Corporation, Limited and China FAW Group Corporation have signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement. 

The aforementioned, as detailed on GAC Group’s official website, is a comprehensive cooperative plan that is said to eventually enable the two entities to jointly improve operational quality and efficiency, collaborate on cross-regional industrial resources, and further develop China’s automotive industry as a whole. 

Per GAC, the said partnership stems from the need to gain stronger ground amid the ever-changing conditions of both the Chinese and global automotive industry landscape. By working together via this strategic alliance, the two carmakers can address the timely dependencies of their individual development requirements and “market development trends.”

It was further argued that  FAW and GAC have complementary strengths in the following areas:

• Brand development
• Vehicle manufacturing
• Market presence
• International operations
• Key technology and independent innovation

For the areas listed above, the companies will form synergies that are touted to meet the demands from clients of the Chinese automotive industry, which, according to GAC, are now shifting from “large-scale growth” to “higher-quality development.”

The cooperation between FAW Group and GAC Group will be guided by four key principles: market orientation, compliance with laws and regulations, equality and mutual benefit, and win-win cooperation. 

As GAC further shared, these principles will help ensure that their partnership remains focused on practical business needs while providing a clear framework for their joint initiatives.

On a broader scale, the agreement is being positioned as a potential example of strategic cooperation between central and local state-owned enterprises. By combining their respective resources, capabilities, and technological strengths, FAW and GAC aim to develop a new model of cooperation that could support greater efficiency and innovation across China's automotive industry.

For the unaware, China’s Central State-Owned Enterprises, a category to which FAW belongs, are directly managed by the country’s central government authorities. 

GAC, meanwhile, is a local state-owned enterprise. Specifically, its primary supervisor is the Guangzhou Municipal Government.
