3 big reasons why the GAC GN6 is worth your attention

GAC International Philippines has already released its trio of multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) and one of the most affordable is the GAC GN6. As of this publishing, it retails at P1.298 million. 

By virtue of its accessibility, it is probably the one that gets the most attention from local prospective buyers. It does, after all, occupy a rather competitive segment that is already occupied by the likes of the Mitsubishi Xpander, Hyundai Stargazer, Nissan Livina, and Toyota Avanza,

Peppy turbocharged goodness

One reason to consider the GAC GN6 is its turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four gasoline mill. It is not as powerful as its electrified siblings, but among its gasoline-only competitors, it ranks high on the totem pole for output. 

For reference, the model can produce up to 176 horsepower and 270 Newton-meters of torque. Power is sent to its front wheels via a seven-speed wet-type dual-clutch transmission. With this, GAC says that the GN6 can reach a top speed of 187 kilometers per hour. The New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) also reports a combined fuel consumption rate of 15.3 kilometers per liter, which isn’t bad considering the model's size. 

Taking charge of the GAC GN6’s stability and handling is a front MacPherson strut and a rear torsion beam suspension system. Stopping power, on the other hand, is provided by front and rear disc brakes.

Loads of amenities, safety equipment

Despite its rather accessible price, the GAC GN6 doesn’t appear to compromise when it comes to amenities. 

Inside the model is a seven-seater layout with leather upholstery, a power sunroof, fold-flat third-row seats, and a dual-zone automatic air-conditioning system with a separate rear control panel. 

For the driver, the model provides a microfiber/leather steering wheel, a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, passive entry and start, as well as a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster. 

Dominating the center of the model’s dash is a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity. The said screen is connected to a six-piece speaker set, while topping up devices can be done through USB Type-C ports and a 12-volt accessory outlet.

Other noteworthy interior features of the GAC GN6 include, but are not limited to:

Notably, the GAC GN6 is one of the few models in the sub-P1 million MPV segment that come with second-row captain seats. These come with a wide range of adjustments and are touted to enhance the model’s interior space and luxury. 

Speaking of space, the model has a default trunk capacity of 324 liters. That’s enough for most use cases, but its trunk can be expanded to 1,100 liters. With that kind of space, one will find no issues when loading up on awkwardly shaped items like sports gear. 

Moving on to its exterior, the model gets plenty of amenities as well. For starters, it has LED lighting fixtures, automatic headlamps, power-adjustable side mirrors, and 17-inch alloy wheels. 

For those curious, the model is 4,792 millimeters (mm) long, 1,837 mm wide, and 1,750 mm in height. Its wheelbase, meanwhile, spans 2,810 mm.

While well-equipped, the model's styling is likewise a highlight. In this regard, it strikes a good balance between modern touches and elegant details. 

As a whole, the model maintains the usual high-roofed shape of an MPV, but it mixes this with strategically placed chrome accents, a vertically slatted grille, and sharp-looking LED lighting patterns. 

Comprehensive safety features

Those who are keen on getting a car that is thoroughly safe will like the GAC GN6 for its abundance of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS). To be exact, the model comes fitted with the following:

• Integrated cruise assist
• Automatic emergency braking
• Forward collision warning

• Lane keep assist

Other models in the sub-P1 million segment also come with ADAS, but only a few can match the GN6's number of individual high-tech features. 

On top of those, the GAC GN6 has plenty of standard safety features as well. It has dual front airbags, front side airbags, side two-row curtain airbags, anti-lock braking, ISOFIX, electronic stability program, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, traction control, tire pressure monitoring, and an anti-theft system - among others.

Overall, the GAC GN6 offers good value for money thanks to the sheer number of amenities and safety features it comes with. This is backed by its relatively peppy turbocharged powertrain.

Sure, most by now may have gravitated more towards hybrid crossovers and MPVs, but the GN6 might just be proof that Chinese brands have not forgotten those who want a gasoline-powered, family-friendly ride.
