MANILA: GAC Motor Philippines gives the public a glimpse of the GAC Empow55 sports sedan and new GAC GS8 Hybrid SUV at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).
In a release, the local GAC company said full details of the Empow55 and GS8 Hybrid will be released during the two models' 2023 official launch.
Using the brand's Global Platform Modular Architecture (GPMA), the Empow55 is GAC's first entry to the sports sedan segment. The sedan possesses a low center of gravity, short front overhang, wide track, long wheelbase, and a wide body. It also boasts an ultra-low wind resistance of 0.26.
Up front, the Empow55 wears a "Mecha" grille and double-sided blade air curtains. Four exhaust pipes, 18-inch wheels, and high-performance rear deflector complement the LED headlights and taillights.
The Empow55 will also ride on what GAC calls ADiGO 3.0 smart driving system, as well as GAC’s all-new “Mega Wave Power” that focuses on “vitality, energy-saving, reliability,” GAC said in a release.
The Mega Wave technology can be seen in the car's two-liter engine that is capable of producing more power and response at a lower fuel consumption, GAC added.
Riding on an extended GPMA-L platform and new multi-link rear suspension for enhanced passenger comfort, the second-generation GS8 features a redesign and hybrid powertrain.
Alongside the hybrid power, the GS8 Hybrid is powered by a two-liter turbocharged engine that sends 252hp and 400Nm of torque to the front wheels by way of an eight-speed automatic transmission.
For its redesign, the GS8 Hybrid features vertical LED headlights and "Dragon Scale Wing" front grille for a masculine look. "Red Diamond" tail lights lend classiness to the rear end.
Inside, the GS8 Hybrid is equipped with a 12.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6 inch infotainment center that controls most of the vehicle's functions. Multiple devices can be wirelessly charged on the GS8's lower center console.
