SUV boasts N95-certified air purifier system

MANILA: The COVID-19 or the novel Coronavirus outbreak is giving the world some real tough times, isn't it? With over a hundred thousand confirmed cases and the death count going up with the passage of each day, governments, firms, and all kinds of manufacturers are upping their game in order to the fight the outbreak and prepare for similar situations in the future.

With that said, Geely, one of the largest automakers from China has brought out an SUV that features a newly developed N95-certified air purifier system capable of fighting bacteria and viruses in the cabin. Called Intelligent Air Purification System (IAPS), the newest air purification system by Geely terminates the harmful elements such as bacteria and viruses in the cabin by working in conjunction with the car's air-conditioning system.

 

Recently launched cars like Hyundai ix25, Kia Seltos, and others around the globe already come equipped with air purifiers which can fight dust and PM 2.5 particles. However, in order to tackle bacterias and viruses, much-advanced tech is needed, and that's where the Geely Icon comes into the picture. On top of that, many high-end luxurious cars across the planet are set to come equipped with UV-C (low-intensity ultraviolet light) that will kill the germs, pathogens, bacteria, and viruses.

Even though the Geely Icon is an SUV with an advanced air purifier, occupants should still maintain hygiene and take precautions like washing hands and using a sanitizer before and after touching elements like the steering wheel, door handles, driver controls, and the central console. Launched in China, the Geely Icon gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol-fed engine that works in tandem with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a seven-speed DCT. The total power output reads 190 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 300 Nm. Since Geely also owns Volvo, we could soon see Volvo cars coming with a similar kind of air purification system.
