Geely PH launches all-new EX5 EM-i in 8 pictures

MANILA: Geely Philippines introduces the EX5 EM-i, the plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) follow-up to the all-electric EX5. 

Boasting the Chinese carmaker’s Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA), the all-new EX5 EM-i is said to be the culmination of 20 years' worth of powertrain technology development. As such, it heralds Geely’s current global thrust in the electrified vehicle segment. 

So, what is the Geely EX5 EM-i offering to the local market? Let’s find out here in eight pictures. 

Powertrain

Under the hood of the Geely EX5 EM-i is a 1.5-liter engine that, on its own, can generate up to 97 horsepower (hp). The aforementioned is linked to an electric motor, which adds a further 214 hp and 262 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. 

Collectively, the said system is called the “E-DHT 11-in-1” hybrid drive unit. Geely says it provides a maximum motor efficiency of 98.02 percent and an overall electric drive efficiency of 92.5 percent. It is also 13.5 percent lighter than previous versions.

Notably, the powertrain has an all-electric range of 83 kilometers (km) according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). In total, the model can cover 943 km. This aligns well with its estimated fuel efficiency of 16.1 kilometers per liter. 

For charging, the vehicle uses a direct current (DC) CCS2 port that can increase battery levels from 30-80 percent in just 20 minutes. Like most PHEV models on the market, it also has regenerative braking.

Exterior

Appearance-wise, the all-new Geely EX5 EM-i resembles the aerodynamic and space-optimized look of the Geely EX5. It features a sleek front fascia with sharp LED headlamp clusters, a mostly smooth side portion with flush door handles and a tall window line, and an equally elegant rear end fitted with a roof-mounted spoiler and an LED taillight bar. 

Other noteworthy exterior amenities available to the EX5 EM-i include a panoramic sunroof, power-folding/adjustable side mirrors, a power tailgate, and up to 19-inch wheels. 

For now, Geely has not disclosed the full measurements of the Philippine-spec EX5 EM-i, but it has a wheelbase length of 2,755 millimeters (mm) and a ground clearance of 172 mm. 

Interior

The all-new Geely EX5 EM-i features a well-arranged cabin with modern touches and plenty of technology. 

Headlining the model's cockpit is a 15.4-inch slim-bezel infotainment display linked to a 16-piece speaker system featuring a 1,000-watt digital amplifier. This goes together with a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster and a 13.8-inch head-up display boasting up to 12,000 nits of brightness. 

For its seat design, Geely opted for ergonomic shapes that offer its occupants a “zero-sensation relief layer.” The front seats in particular come with a three-level ventilation system. 

Due to its lengthy wheelbase, the model is said to provide an abundance of legroom for all five occupants. Additionally, it has a default trunk capacity of 427 liters, which is complemented by a 100-liter hidden underfloor compartment. If these aren’t enough, the rear seats can be folded down for up to 2,065 liters of total cargo space. 

Maximum utilization of the EX5 EM-i’s interior, even for outdoor activities, is provided by a dedicated “camping space function.” This transforms the car's interior into a relaxing space through subtle adjustments to its screen backgrounds, music, and ambient lighting system. The said mode also enables the EX5 EM-i’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, allowing users to use the vehicle’s battery as a power source for small gadgets, tools, and other outdoor equipment.

• Wireless smartphone charging pad
• Front cabin center armrest
• Automatic air-conditioning with an N95 air filter
• Split-folding rear seats with armrest
• Electronic parking brake
• Drive mode selector
• Apple CarPlay

Safety

For safety, the Geely EX5 EM-i’s basic kit includes a total of six airbags, anti-lock braking, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a 360-degree view camera, front and rear parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring, stability/traction control, a collision power cut-off system, speed-sensing door locks, and an event recording system. 

The model’s suite of advanced driver-assist systems, meanwhile, consists of the following: 

• Lane departure warning
• Collision mitigation system
• Lane change assist
• Rear cross-traffic warning
• Blind-spot monitoring
• Adaptive cruise control
• Traffic sign recognition
• Intelligent high beam control

Price

As of its launch, the all-new Geely EX5 EM-i retails at P1.288 million for the Pro and P1.468 million for the top-spec Max. It is also available in Alpine White, Polar Black, Glacier Blue, Jungle Green, Volcanic Grey, and Cloudveil Silver.

Moreover, the Geely EX5 EM-i comes with a six-year or 150,000-km warranty, whichever comes first. It also has an eight-year unlimited warranty.
