Geely EX5

Featuring an all-black leather upholstery, the interiors of the Geely EX5 feel premium with contrast satin silver highlights on the trapezoidal side buttons of the two-spoke, flat-bottomed, multi-functional steering wheel, dashboard and inside-door handles. The cabin is equipped with 256-colour ambient lighting, which along with the LED reading lights, makes the cabin feel lively. 

The cabin of the Geely EX5 is loaded with new-generation technology, with the electric crossover getting a 10.2-inch coloured LCD instrument console, a 15.4-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, 16-speaker FLYME audio system with dual-zone in-vehicle audio control and a wireless charger. The other features enhancing the comfort of the occupants in the cabin include electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation, memory and massage functions, dual-zone automatic climate control, and two-way power-adjustable leg support for co-passengers.

The crossover-esque styling of the Geely EX5 looks fresh and has a decent road presence with large dimensions making it look premium. The clean-looking front end looks slightly low-slung, with a pixelated radar sitting in the middle of the bumper. The sleek and triangular all-LED headlamps also feature intelligent high beam control, while the front bumper has L-shaped slim faux air vents. 

The side profile of the Geely EX5 has aero alloy wheels – 18-inch in Pro and 19-inch in Max variants while having wheel arch cladding, chrome surrounds for the window panels, and smoothly-contoured door panels and fenders. At the back, the EX5 looks stylish with its see-through LED combination tail lamps that are joined by a similar-looking LED connecting light bar across the boot lid’s width. The EX5 is also equipped with active grill shutters, a panoramic sunroof, powered and heated rearview mirrors, and rain-sensing wipers. 

The Geely EX5 has a conventional suspension setup of Macpherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear, with this Chinese electric SUV also offering energy-saving tech like a braking energy recovery system, adjustable energy recovery system, and collision safety power-cut system. There are three driving modes – Eco, Norma,l and Sport – to deliver precise driving experience and power delivery, though the steering feedback feels too light at higher speeds. 

The Geely EX5 is offered with a single-motor, front-wheel drive configuration, with its 160kW electric motor generating 215 bhp maximum power and 320 Nm maximum torque. With this electric motor, the Geely EX5 can do the 0-100 kmph in 6.9 seconds in the Pro variant and 7.1 seconds in the Max variant, while having a common top speed of 175 kmph. The 60.22kWh LFP battery of the EX5 delivers a range of 430 km in the Pro variant and 425 km in the Max variant (both ranges are WLTP-certified). 

The Max variant of the Geely EX5 is loaded with comprehensive ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, intelligent cruise control, collision mitigation support for front and rear, rear cross-traffic alert, rear cross-traffic braking, lane keep assist, traffic sign information, door open warning, lane change assist, blind spot detection, and emergency lane keep assist.

Other standard safety features in both the variants of EX5 are traction control, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and brake assist, hill start assist, hill descent control, six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree parking camera and event recording system. 

The popular and versatile SEA platform has already spawned a variety of electric cars in both mass-market and luxury segments, and the Geely EX5 is one of the brilliant examples of those cars. The EX5 feels future-ready with its new-age styling, a long list of features, and a decent battery and motor configuration delivering a usable performance that feels thrilling at times.
