Honda responds to new Livina and Avanza with updated Mobilio

MANILA: With the cut-throat budget MPV segment being as competitive as it is, car manufacturers cannot afford to sit back when competitors make new launches. When Nissan launched the new Livina, and Toyota came out with the new Avanza, Honda needed to respond. They have done so with the Mobilio refresh.

The new model does not bring significant changes, but they are sufficient enough to keep the Mobilio in the game. All variants now get projector lights with LED DRLs below while the bumper design remains the same. The alloy wheel design has also changed with the most noticeable one found in the RS model, which has a 5-spoke two-tone design. The E variant gets the older RS model alloy wheel design.

Step inside the new Mobilio and you are greeted with orange accents around the AC vents. This we are specific is the RS model. The most significant change on the inside is the bigger 8-inch infotainment screen, similar to the one found on the new HR-V, City, and BR-V. Other features remain the same as the older Mobilio, which means still no engine start/stop button. While the interior of the older E model was predominantly beige, it is now black adding a sporty touch.

Under the hood, there are no changes. The same L15A 1.5-litre 4-cylinder unit powers the updated Mobilio. Thanks to the i-VTEC technology, this engine is efficient and makes class-leading power, at 120 PS. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic.

All these changes should help the Honda Mobilio fend off competition from the new kids while an all-new model is launched.
