LTO Chief Asec. Lacanilao steps in as LTO-NCR RD

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office - National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) recently saw a shake-up in its leadership positions — with the current LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao stepping in as the new Acting Regional Director. 

The aforementioned was made official by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Special No. 2025-505, which was signed by DOTr Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez. 

Per LTO, Lacanilao’s new position will lead to the reinvigoration of the LTO-NCR and will likewise ensure that the aforementioned regional office will be able to provide “effective and efficient services to the public.”

The Discaya connection

Based on reports, the decision to put Lacanilao as the head of LTO-NCR is linked to the ongoing investigations involving Curlee and Sarah Discaya's lineup of controversial vehicles. Such an appointment is said to allow for a more “independent” and “transparent” investigation. 

The aforementioned probe led to the seizure of several luxury vehicles owned by the couple that was recently auctioned off, which include: 

• Toyota Tundra (2022)
• Toyota Sequoia (2023)
• Rolls-Royce Cullinan (2023)
• Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG (2022)
• Mercedes-Benz G500 (2019, Brabus)
• Lincoln Navigator L (2021)
• Bentley Bentayga (2022)

One of the more expensive unit in the said fleet is the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, which had a floor price of P45.314 million.
