Toyota Veloz Hybrid makes global debut

MANILA: Toyota is hot in creating electrified versions of their existing nameplates as it has launched the hybrid version of the Veloz.

Revealed at the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week 2025, the company announced the start of the reservation period for the multi-purpose vehicle — with the price starting at around P1.059 million (RP299 million). The said pricing is only valid for orders made until the end of December 2025.

Aside from the promo price, no details were shared yet. However, here are some of its possible details.

Probable specs

The Indonesia-manufactured vehicle might be fitted with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder, in-line, 16 valve hybrid electric engine with dual variable valve timing (VVT-i) mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) — the same setup found in the Ativ (which was revealed in the Philippines last month).

On paper, the mill can dish out:

• Maximum output: 89.7 horsepower
• Peak torque: 121 Newton-meters

Except for this powertrain, the Toyota Veloz Hybrid still carries the same exterior features as the currently-offered internal combustion engine version. With that, Zigwheels Philippines has a firm belief that it carries similar dimensions as the existing model.

To note, the Philippine-spec Toyota Veloz measures:

Seating capacity	Seven

At the time of posting, Toyota Motor Philippines has yet to announce if it will bring the Veloz Hybrid. The idea of it entering the Philippines is not far-fetched since two electrified models (namely the Yaris Cross and Ativ) are already available in the country.

This anticipated move forms part of Toyota Motor Asia’s multi-pathway thrust towards carbon neutrality.  

Should TMP decide to introduce it here next year, the next Philippine International Motor Show could be the venue.

Aside from that, we believed that the pricing of the Toyota Veloz (should the local distributor bring it in) will be around P1.5 million.

Currently, the locally-retailed Toyota Veloz can be had in three variants — all of which are powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline-fed engine matched to a CVT.
