Mazda PH prolongs HEV battery warranty to 5 years

MANILA: Mazda Philippines has extended the lithium-ion battery warranty for its hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) line.

In a statement, the Japanese automaker’s local distributor shared that the warranty for the batteries (be it in 24- or 48-volt version) of the Mazda3, CX-30, CX-60, and CX-90 have been prolonged to five years from the previous three-year coverage.

The extended coverage, Maza Philippines noted, applies to all units that have been sold since the model’s respective introductions in the Philippine market beginning in October 2021 with the Mazda3 HEV and CX-30 HEV.

“The warranty extension of the hybrid battery from three to five years underscores our dedication to quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction. It reinforces our commitment to providing premium quality hybrid technology and exceptional customer services,” Mazda Philippines President Steven Tan was quoted as saying.

“Owners of these models will now benefit from comprehensive coverage for their hybrid battery systems, ensuring added peace of mind,” he added.

According to Mazda Philippines, the extended five-year HEV battery warranty is on top of the other benefits given to its clientele, which include a three-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year or 100,000-kilometer free preventive maintenance service (PMS) package.

How Mazda HEV system works

The Mazda HEV batteries are equipped with advanced temperature management systems, automatically optimizing the battery’s performance depending on the driving condition. Such a feature prevents excessive heat that can take its toll in battery life and efficiency.

Aside from that, the HEV battery also has its own dedicated power control module (PCM) that manages the charging and discharging function — preventing overcharging or depletion to extend battery life.

The company added that the lithium-ion batteries serve as an integral part of the Mazda HEV system. Per Mazda Philippines, the power banks complement the Skyactiv engine technology that helps provide “exceptional driving performance with reduced fuel consumption.”

In addition, the system cuts down tailpipe emissions by switching off the combustion engine at low speeds or at idle.

Lastly, the Mazda HEV system comes with a regenerative braking feature that catches the energy that is normally lost during deceleration and stores it in the battery — thereby reducing reliance on the internal combustion engine.
