MMDA, LGUs boost coordinated traffic, transport management along Marcos Highway

MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the local government units of Pasig City, Marikina City, Antipolo City, and Cainta further strengthened their coordinated traffic and transport management along Marcos Highway.

The initiative—that will be conducted through memorandum of understanding—was made following the severe traffic congestion experienced along Marcos Highway back in December 6, 2025, when motorists endured a traffic standstill lasting nearly six hours, with some experiencing prolonged delays until the early hours of the next day.

After the incident, officials from the MMDA and traffic management heads of the four affected areas met at the MMDA Headquarters on December 9, 2025, to discuss traffic adjustments and identify possible measures to prevent a recurrence of a similar situation.

In a statement, the MMDA shared that the traffic management thrust is in line with administration’s directive to pursue stronger coordination among government agencies and local government units in addressing traffic congestion and improving mobility and transportation services.

• Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis  Sotto
• Marikina Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro
• Cainta Mayor Atty. Johnielle Keith Nieto
•  Antipolo City Mayor Casimiro Ynares III

According to Artes, the newly-signed pact is aimed to establishing a unified approach to addressing traffic congestion, road obstructions, and other traffic concerns along Marcos Highway.

Under the memorandum, the MMDA and the concerned local government units  will rid Marcos Highway of obstructions, illegally parked or stalled vehicles, unauthorized terminals and structures, as well as ambulant vendors and peddlers occupying public spaces that slow down the flow of traffic.

All of them will also ensure that the major thoroughfare will be adequately manned and supervised at all times.

Further, the participating local government units will also install traffic personnel within their respective inner roads connected to Marcos Highway, subject to the availability of personnel and resources.
