Nike releases Chevrolet Impala-Inspired Book 2

MANILA: Nike and Devin Booker launched the Book sneaker collection starting with the Chevrolet Impala-inspired version.

Called “Pretty Penny”, the first drop in the four-shoe collaboration was released last August 15 in Detroit during the Woodward Dream Cruise.

The Golden Bowtie shared in a statement that the design of the first Book 2 drew inspiration from Booker’s collection of vintage Chevrolet Impala examples while deepening the connection to his Michigan roots and lifelong love of Chevrolet.

Specifically, Pretty Penny’s color scheme was taken from Booker’s 1959 Chevrolet Impala convertible—the vehicle that started Booker’s classic car obsession.

Aside from that, each design in the Book 2 collection highlights one of Booker’s Impalas—with the paint color and subtle details like tongue tops matching each vehicle’s hood ornament.

Furthermore, each sneaker design features the model year of the inspiring car (1958, 1959, 1962, 1963) and other details.

The collection also has a “Heartbeat of America” T-Shirt, inspired by the iconic Chevrolet anthem in the 1980s and 1990s.

All the sneakers under the collection come in a custom box inspired by Chevrolet’s mid-century vintage Accessories packaging, reimagining its kraft-paper constructions, bold teal-and-orange graphics and oversized lettering.

"I’ve been a lifelong Chevy fan and I truly love adding classic cars to my garage, The Library,” Booker said. “Bringing together my Michigan roots and my passion for Chevy makes this project really special."

Following its initial release is the shoe collection’s global launch today.

The remaining three shoes in the collection will become available this coming December.

"When an All-Star like Devin draws genuine inspiration from one of our classic Chevys, it speaks volumes. Millions of people connect with that passion for an iconic car,” Chevrolet Vice President Scott Bell was quoted as saying.

“Seeing Devin’s love for his Chevy collection inspire a custom sneaker isn’t just special, it’s a truly one-of-a-kind moment for our brand.”
