Overview

To go with the ongoing flow of compact SUVs globally, Chevrolet came up with the Trax. The car has gradually become one of the highest selling models of Chevrolet in various markets. The Chevrolet Trax has just been updated to make it even fresher in appearance. The compact SUV is being offered in the Philippines in two variants – LS and LT, and five different color options, namely Summit White, Switchblade Silver, Boracay Blue, Pull Me Over Red, Abalone White, Black Meet Kettle, Son of a Gun Grey, and Velvet Red.

Interior & Features

On the inside, the Chevrolet Trax hasn’t gone under many changes, with the overall cabin inherited from the previous model completely.

The three-spoke steering wheel with the vertical centre boss and trapezoidal buttons for audio and Bluetooth on them has been completely lifted off from the Cruze. However, the driver’s cockpit has got a different looking instrument console, which is a mix of analogue dials and an LCD screen for MID.

Taking the centre stage of the curvaceous console is a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which complies with all the modern smartphone connectivity options. The buttons for climate control are positioned below it, with the Trax featuring other prominent features like push-button start with keyless entry, driver seat height adjustment, leather upholstery, cruise control, six-speaker audio system, and reverse camera. Given its limited length, the rear knee room, and shoulder room are at a premium, thus compromising in rear seat space.

Exterior

SUVs are meant to appeal just by the way they look in isolation, and the Chevrolet Trax, in that sense, succeeds in the job. The Trax might be small in size, but various design elements and the raised stance gives it a sense of a big vehicle.

Starting from the front, the Chevrolet Trax’s front fascia has been revised with a new front grille, which is in line with the latest generation Chevrolet cars. The two slat front grille is sleeker, with the upper slimmer portion of the grille now housing the Chevrolet logo. The headlamps now come with revised units for projector headlamps and daytime running LEDs. The silver finished skid plates as well as black cladding on the lower portion of the front bumper give the Trax a rugged look.

The side profile of the Trax remains unchanged, save for a new design of the alloy wheels. The thick black cladding below, the door mounted large rearview mirrors, large side glasses and roof rails do make the Trax look very sporty.

At the rear, the Chevrolet Trax has got quite a polarized design, with the rear hatch having a design as if it has been chopped off a long vehicle. The small rear windscreen and big tail lamps positioned quite low might not go well with everyone, but nevertheless, it does make the Trax look distinctive.

Ride & Handling

The Chevrolet Trax sits on a monocoque frame and gets Macpherson struts with stabilizer at the front and torsion beam at the rear. The suspension is tuned on a slightly stiffer setup for making the Trax an agile handler, despite its raised ride height.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

For the Trax, Chevrolet has employed only one engine option, which is a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol powerhouse. The engine, mated to a sole option of a 6-speed automatic transmission, is capable of putting up 140 PS of maximum power and 200 Nm of peak torque, making it one of the most powerful compact SUVs on sale right now.

Braking & Safety

The Chevrolet Trax might be one of the entry-level options for the American marquee, but it is still stuffed with some impressive safety features. One does get six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, cornering brake control, rear wheel boost, rollover mitigation, panic brake assist, hill start assist, engine drag control, hill descent control, reverse parking sensors with camera, cruise control, seatbelt pre-tensioners with force limiters, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, and tire pressure monitoring system.

Verdict

With this recent update, the Chevrolet Trax has become even more tempting option to look after. All thanks to its revised front styling, premium and well-finished interiors, and long list of comfort, convenience and safety features on offer.

A gas guzzling 1.4 liter vehicle

I bought a brand new Trax June of 2017. I found out right away that it consumes 1 liter for every 6 kilometers. After 2 months, my spark plugs exploded. It took Chevy 6 months to fix the problem and they said that the engine should not be consuming 1 liter for every 6 kilometers. I wanted to exchange the Read More

I have always wanted to purchase a car. After we shifted to the suburbs, it was becoming very difficult to go to office daily using public transport. I also had to drop my kids to school and pick them up because my husband's office timings didn't match with the kid's school timings. It was becoming difficult to manage all of Read More
