New Bentley Bentayga Speed sets Goodwood hill climb record

MANILA: The new Bentley Bentayga Speed impressed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed by setting a new record at the automotive festival’s famous hill climb. 

Despite partially wet conditions, the luxury carmaker’s sport utility vehicle (SUV) completed the run in 55.8 seconds to officially become the fastest internal combustion engine-equipped production model to tackle the uphill course. 

The aforementioned time beats the previous Bentley Bentayga Speed — which took on the challenge in the dry — by almost a second. 

Power, poise 

The new Bentley Bentayga Speed is equipped with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, which generates the following figures: 

Maximum power output (in horsepower)	641
Maximum torque (in Newton-meters)	850

 

In addition to the abovementioned numbers, the new Bentley Bentayga Speed is able to reach a top speed of 310 kilometers per hour (kph) and can accelerate from a standstill to approximately 100 kph in 3.4 seconds. 

Further, Bentley has equipped the new Bentayga Speed with an enhanced Sport chassis mode with a new dynamic electronic stability control setting to provide “maximum driver involvement” and the choice between “enhanced road-holding” or “the ability to slide the car on-power.” 

Giving the powerplant more character is a Sports exhaust system, which delivers a rich and powerful sound that complements the eager character of the V8 mill. 

Those eyeing the SUV can opt for the available Titanium Akrapovic Exhaust system, which according to Bentley, “accentuates the power, drama, and potency of the V8.”

While the Sports exhaust uses two elliptical tailpipes, the optional Akrapovic appointment features quad mufflers. 

And while we’re on the topic of optional upgrades, the new Bentley Bentayga Speed can be had with a set of carbon ceramic brakes, painted calipers, and 23-inch Speed wheels. 

Distinctive exterior features include the following: 

• Dark tint brightware
• Bright chrome Speed badges
• 22-inch Speed wheels (available in dark tint or silver) 
• Unique Speed headlamps with dark tint bezel 
• Gray taillamps with dark tint bezel

In addition to showcasing the capabilities of the new Bentley Bentayga Speed, the storied British luxury carmaker wowed attendees with a purpose-built show stand, said to be the marque’s largest to date. 

The stand covered some 500 square meters with two storeys.
