Nissan lets you pay for parking with electricity

MANILA: Starting August 2020, customers can pay for parking fees at the Nissan Pavilion in Yokohama, Japan using power discharged from their EVs (electric vehicles).

This initiative is a world’s first and is just one of the many innovations customers can experience at the pavilion. Another is dining at the Nissan Chaya Café that’s powered entirely by a Nissan Leaf and solar energy. Visitors can also feel the thrill of Formula E when they go for a ride in the all-new Ariya EV crossover.

The ProPilot advanced driver assistance system is also available for guests to experience along with the brand’s Invisible-to-Visible (I2V) technology that combines information from the real and virtual world to assist drivers.

Nissan’s brand ambassador and Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka is also there to play virtual matches with children and adults.

A mobility hub in front of the Pavilion offers EV car-sharing services and bicycle rentals to provide increased mobility to customers.

“The Pavilion is a place where customers can see, feel, and be inspired by our near-future vision for society and mobility. As the world shifts to electric mobility, EVs will be integrated into society in ways that go beyond just transportation,” said Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida.

This is made possible by the automaker’s partnership with the private and public sector. Using Nissan Energy Share and Energy Storage technologies, electricity from EV batteries can be stored, shared, and repurposed for powering homes and/or businesses.

Agreements with the local government will also make use of the Leaf as energy sources during natural disasters and calamities, and using old EV batteries to power streetlights.
