QC Court Supports Online Transport Services To Teach Ill Mannered Taxi Drivers A Lesson

MANILA: In the wake of online transit services like U-Hop and Uber Cabs, taxi drivers all across the globe have been in a state of constant ranting due to poor customer base. The same can be said about the Philippine taxi drivers who recently filed a legal complaint against the operation of such online services. This rage against such services has been on a constant rise in the country as the taxi drivers constantly complain about not getting as many customers as they used to. Much to their dismay, Quezon City Regional Trial Court has officially dismissed their complaint against Uber cabs and similar services operating in the city. The complaint was filed by the Philippine Transport Coalition otherwise known as Stop n Go, against LTFRB (Land transportation Franchising and Regulatory board and the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).

According to this lawsuit, both government bodies were to stop allowing the operation of Uber, Grab and U-Hop in the city, and stop any such application from being introduced. But contrary to what they expected, their case was harshly dismissed by Attorney Winston Ginez who panned the taxi drivers for their poor behavior with the customers with repeated cases of crimes against them. We might have already heard about the infamous Taxi Driver who was involved with robbing and physically abusing 5 passengers this month. Although the suspect has been apprehended by the police, this also raises several questions about the level of safety and service offered by the taxi drivers across the country.

Mr. Ginez also added that it was high time that the taxi drivers improved their services and behavior with customers. He blamed the drivers’ own rude and unfriendly behavior for this situation and advised them to focus on weeding out all the indisciplined drivers instead of complaining to get more customers. As more and more people choose to hire such TNVS (Transport Network Vehicle Service) operators due to fair prices and good services. While QC Trial Court’s decision may sound a little harsh to a few, we all know this is a great step towards building a better and brighter platform for both customers and taxi drivers.
