5 reasons to be excited about the Geely EX2

Not too long ago, Geely Motor Philippines publicly debuted the EX2.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the Geely EX2?

The Geely EX2 is powered by an electric motor at the rear wheels.
  • How much power does it make?

    It makes 113 hp.
  • With the 2026 Manila International Auto Show as the venue, the best-selling model in China across all segments from January to December 2025 piqued the interest of many car buyers who are looking past the vehicle’s country of origin and are focusing on what benefits it has to offer.

Its arrival has already been confirmed by the carmaker’s local subsidiary, but if you are someone eyeing the electric hatchback, here are five reasons why you should get excited about its official launch.

Before we begin, it is worth noting that the Geely EX2 is part of the approved list published by the Department of Energy (DOE), the country’s governing body responsible for electric vehicles (EV).

On that note, the data we will discuss comes from the information we get by visiting the agency’s page dedicated to EVs that have received regulatory approval from DOE.

    City-friendly size

We believe that one of the main factors that will convince many car buyers to try the Geely EX2 is its city-friendly size.

For comparison’s sake, here are its dimensions versus some popular city cars:

    Model

    Geely EX2

    Toyota Raize

    Kia Sonet

Overall length, width, height (in millimeters [mm>)

    4,135 x 1,805 x 1,580

    4,030 x 1,710 x 1,605

    4,110 x 1,790 x 1,642

    Wheelbase (in mm)

    2,650

    2,525

    2,500

    Ground clearance (in mm)

    160

With a picture of the vehicle’s size, it is also easy to imagine how maneuverable the Geeely EX2 is, leading the author to believe that it will also be a good first car for those beginning their motoring journey.

Unlike larger, bulkier vehicles, the Geely EX2 can be easily driven in narrower streets, more crowded thoroughfares, and ultimately in heavier traffic. This can ease the stress on newer drivers who might get anxious about scuffing their fenders or scratching their side panels when stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, with the added pressure of motorcycle riders trying to squeeze into every space they can.

And despite its compact size, it does not compromise its capabilities. It has seats for five and a trunk capacity that ranges from 375 to 1,320 liters.

Since we are on the topic of capabilities…

    Capable daily driver

Powering the Geely EX2 is a permanent magnet synchronous motor that propels the rear wheels.

The said setup generates 113 horses and 150 Newton-meters. With a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour (kph), its all-electric powertrain sends the Geely EX2 from a standstill to 50 kph in 4.6 seconds or 100 kph in 11.5 seconds.

Fitted in the all-electric automobile is a 39.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-iron phosphate battery that can be recharged from 10 to 100 percent in under seven hours using an alternating current charging system.

Conversely, it will only take the Geely EX2 25 minutes to reach an 80-percent state of charge from 30 percent using a direct current charging unit.

Range-wise, it can travel up to 325 kilometers on a single charge.

And those who think electric cars like the Geely EX2 are boring can tailor their experiences as the vehicle comes with three drive modes — namely Eco, Comfort, and Sport — to help them get the best experience when sitting behind the wheel.

Finally, it is able to provide power to smaller appliances due to its vehicle-to-load feature.

    Friendly looks

As the performance figures the Geely EX2 offers are not on the aggressive side of the spectrum, it is understandable that its looks fall in the same category.

The fascia is rounded off, as most parts of the car’s exterior. Notably, it offers LED illumination, metal side skirts, heated exterior mirrors, frameless windshield wipers, semi-concealed door handles, and a set of either 15- or 16-inch wheels — depending on the variant.

As such, the writer feels like it will be an easy pick, not just for young or female drivers, but also for those who prefer a vehicle that does not look too sporty and would like to keep a low profile.

Thinking ahead, a cutesy-looking car may even help reduce aggression and rage on the road, as oftentimes one’s character is associated with the car he or she drives. After all, our vehicles can be the extension of our personalities — to some degree.

    Comfy interior

It is expected that the cabin of the Geely EX2 will be a reflection of its exterior. That said, the car’s interior has plenty of rounded corners that makes it look easy on the eyes.

Welcoming the driver is a vegan-wrapped leather seat — same as those for the other four occupants. It also gets a multi-functional microfiber leather steering wheel with an 8.8-inch instrument cluster past it. Its infotainment system measures 14.6 inches and offers smartphone connectivity via CarbitLink.

For added convenience, a wireless charger is available. A manual air-conditioning system with rear vents will keep passengers comfortable, even in hot weather.

    Safety

What’s impressive about the Geely EX2 is that it does not compromise safety and comes packed with both passive and active technologies, such as:

    • Geely traction control system
    • Electronic stability control
    • Anti-lock braking
    • Electronic brake force distribution
    • Brake assist system
    • Anti-rolling program
    • Hill-start assist control
    • Hill descent control
    • Rear parking sensors
    • Burglar alarm
    • Automatic driving away locking system
    • Mechanical child safety locks
    • Low-speed alert for EV (electric vehicle) driving
    • Trunk escape switch

It also has advanced driver-assist systems in the form of the following:

    • Adaptive cruise control
    • Automatic emergency braking
    • Lane departure warning
    • Forward collision warning
    • Intelligent high-beam control
    • Rear-view camera
    • 540-degree panoramic view camera

    Final thoughts

The Geely EX2 will likely be released in the latter part of 2026. While its price is yet to be revealed, it arrives as a strong contender in the country’s EV segment.
