Wuling Gameboy Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
The Wuling Gameboy is an entry-level all-electric microcar, which has been specially designed and engineered for short-distance, intra-city commutes. With a futuristic design language and an all-electric powertrain, the Wuling Gameboy has been introduced in a single fully loaded variant, with two colour options on offer – black and white.
Wuling Gameboy Interior & Features
Wuling has carried out a minimalist approach for the cabin of the Gameboy, which looks funky and not boring-looking, despite the absence of many comfort and convenience features which are considered essential in modern times. The cabin has an all-black theme, which is further accentuated by silver accents on the central layer of the dashboard, lower centre console and door trims.
The Wuling Gameboy has a two-spoke steering wheel, which is tilt adjustable and comes with a silver theme for the spokes. The car gets a full-TFT instrument console in a trapezoidal housing behind the steering wheel, which also doubles up as a display for the infotainment, as there is no separate screen for the same in the centre console.
The middle layer of the dashboard, which is finished in a theme of silver, comes with round-themed buttons and knobs for the manual AC and audio system, with the car getting cup holders on the corners of the dashboard and a rotary knob for the drive mode selector in the lower centre console. The steering wheel boss and inner door handles also come with contrast red highlights for a funkier look.
Gameboy Exterior
The Wuling Gameboy has a funky design, which, combined with the compact dimensions, makes it an attention-grabber. This two-seater all-electric car has the dimensions of a microcar, which makes it look small. However, the new-age design elements make it look very youthful and striking.
At the front, the Wuling Gameboy has a lot of rectangular influence, which is visible in the design of the closed grille and headlamps. The upper edge of the rectangular closed grille has a sleek daytime running LED strip, while the rectangular headlamp housings, which have angular designs on the sides, come with C-shaped daytime running LEDs over their edges. These housings also come integrated with LED projectors, while the simple-looking front bumper has vertical slim air curtains on the sides.
From the side, the Wuling Gameboy looks very compact with a short wheelbase, which is further accentuated by its two-door look and small 12-inch wheels, which have aero-styled wheel caps. There are a lot of creases flowing over the side profile, which along with the angular design for the rear quarter glass, make the side profile of the Gameboy look dramatic.
The Wuling Gameboy comes with a blacked-out theme for the roof, roof rails, and rearview mirrors, while the car also gets body-coloured door handles and fender-mounted turn indicators. At the back, the Wuling Gameboy has an almost vertical design, with the rectangular influence visible in the rear windscreen and tail lamp housings, which come with X-shaped LED inserts. Here also, the vertical lights placed on the corners of the rear bumper have reverse lamps on the right light.
Wuling Gameboy Ride & Handling
The compact dimensions of the Wuling Gameboy come into effect in making this small electric car a great handler in the intense traffic conditions of an urban environment. The small 12-inch wheels and light setup for the steering make it even easier to drive, while the front McPherson independent suspension and rear three-link semi-independent suspension make the ride quality feel mature and plush.
Gameboy Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering the Wuling Gameboy is a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous 30kW motor, which produces 110 Nm of maximum torque and enables the Gameboy to reach a top speed of 100 kmph. The 26.5 kWh lithium-ion battery of the Wuling Gameboy is capable of returning a maximum range of 300 km while taking 8.5 hours to charge from 20 to 80% using an AC charger.
Wuling Gameboy Braking & Safety
The Wuling Gameboy feels very basic and minimalist when it comes to safety equipment on offer. Along with a driver airbag, the Gameboy comes equipped only with ABS and EBD, power windows, reverse parking sensors and a reverse camera.
Gameboy Verdict
The Wuling Gameboy is an entry-level car, which might feel compromised on features and premium appeal. However, for four people, it is a perfect solution for short-distance urban runs, thanks to its impressive range and decent levels of space on offer.
