Wuling Macaron

The design of the cabin of the Wuling Macaron feels very simple and functional, though Wuling has managed to make it look attractive with a well-chosen execution of colour-coded bits like bottle holders and dashboard layers matching the exterior paint shade. The cabin is available in two dual-tone upholstery options – grey as the main colour, while green, pink, yellow or white as the secondary colour for the colourful decoration.  

The driver’s cockpit of the Wuling Macaron has a very basic-looking two-spoke steering but has a modern fully digital instrument console behind it. The rest of the dashboard looks very plain with a layered and flowing design for the panels which house sleek AC vents within them. The lower layer of the dashboard has a round-themed panel, which comes with rounded buttons for the audio system and manual AC. While the doors come with pockets, the transmission controller knob is placed within a panel between the front seats.

Being the most affordable and smallest offering from Wuling in many of the markets, the Wuling Macaron plays its game strongly with the way it looks. The compact dimensions and cutesy looks of the Wuling Macaron can attract most of the people of the younger generation, who can develop a love for it even more with the funky colour options in which it is being offered.

The front profile of the Wuling Macaron looks lovable with a simple, no-nonsense look, which manages to catch one’s attention with the presence of LED elements. The Macaron has a closed rectangular grille in the middle, which is garnished with a thin strip of chrome running in the middle. The large-sized headlamps on either side of the closed grille have LED projector headlamps with round-themed LED daytime running lights around them. The front bumper has a large black-themed air dam with rectangular fog lamps on the sides.

The Wuling Macaron carried forward its cutesy appearance on the side profile too, with the compact electric car having a two-door look and glossy black finish for the rearview mirrors and C-pillar garnish, the latter of which gives the roof a floating effect. With lots of characteristic creases over the door panels and front and rear fenders, the Wuling Macaron has 12-inch steel wheels with funky-looking wheel caps on offer.

At the rear, the Wuling Macaron has an almost vertical roof and a small opening for the boot, with a black garnished panel in the middle below the windscreen having block-shaped tail lamp clusters with rounded outer edges. Here, the tail lamps feature attractive LED inserts, which mimic the design of the daytime running LEDs at the front.

The Wuling Macaron has been provided with 12-inch wheels, which might look small in general, but go well with the overall design of the car and prove to be decent for low-speed driving. The car has front McPherson independent suspension and rear three-link semi-independent suspension for a well-sorted low-speed ride quality.

Both the variants of the Wuling Macaron are powered by a 20kW rear-mounted electric motor, which generates 85 Nm of maximum torque and helps the Wuling Macaron attain a top speed of 100 kmph. The lower variant has a 9kWh battery which claims 120 km of range and takes 6.5 hours for a 20-80% charge, while the 13.5kWh battery offered in the higher variant offers a range of 170 km and takes 9 hours for a 20-80% charge.

The very basic safety equipment list of the Wuling Macaron consists of a driver-side airbag, ABS and EBD, power windows, reverse parking sensors and a reverse camera.

The overall performance of the Wuling Macaron cannot be termed as hair-raising or highly practical for long drives. However, for short-distance commutes, the Wuling Macaron is a considerable option, which tries to prove its mettle with its cutesy appearance and affordable pricing.
