Teaser sketches offers a preview of the 2020 Volkswagen Golf

MANILA: Official sketches of the eighth generation Volkswagen Golf compact hatchback have generated much hype in time for its October 24, 2019 unveiling in Wolfsburg. The Volkswagen Golf is the company's most sellable sedan model—globally at least. So, what can we expect on the 2020 Volkswagen Golf based on the drawings?

In terms of the exterior design, the Golf still embraces the evolutionary blueprint typical of this VW sedan variant. What makes it stand out from its predecessor is the headlight. Volkswagen continued the Golf’s slow progression from round to sharply-angled headlights, plus there seemed to be an added thin light strip running through the front length.

The interior is where the new generation VW Golf makes a dramatic shift from the outgoing model. From the teaser, it can be noted that the German automaker has indeed transitioned to deliver its promise of a digital cockpit with considerable fewer physical buttons.

Most of the controls have been integrated into the touchscreen, mounted above the air vents, which merges with the digital instrument cluster and what appears to be another touch panel to the left of the driver’s display. Below the infotainment system is what seemed like streamlined touch-sensitive controls probably for the AC system.

The sleek-looking air vents were placed much lower on the dashboard to give way to the monitor that is positioned within the fascia level to give a sense of fluidity in the design. This fluidity is further embraced with what seemed to be another thin strip of LED lights running through the entire dashboard.

Basing the modern, expensive feel of the interior, Volkswagen boasts that the new Gold will be a trendsetter in terms of “assisted driving features and online-based functions and services” (whatever that means).

As previously mentioned, the new Volkswagen Golf will make its world debut this month and will go on sale in the last quarter of 2019. However, it is very unlikely that the upcoming VW Golf model will make it to Philippine shores as Volkswagen Philippines currently sources all their units from SAIC-Volkswagen in China.
