Tesla enters PH market, offers 2-car lineup

MANILA: Tesla Motors has officially entered the Philippine market by unveiling a two-model lineup.

In a public event at Uptown Mall in Taguig, the Elon-Musk steered electric vehicle (EV) marque unveiled Models Y and 3 — which are both sourced from China.

Model Y specifications

Crowned the world’s best-selling vehicle in 2023, the Tesla Model Y measures 4,749.8 millimeters (mm) long; 1,978.66 mm wide; and 1,625.6 mm tall as well as 157-mm ground clearance and 1,995-kilogram curb weight.

Among the electric crossover’s exterior design features are its minimalist look as expressed in the minimal body lines, grille-less front fascia, and all-glass roofing.

Inside, the electric-five seater compact sport utility vehicle features an avant-garde dashboard, a simplified multifunction steering wheel, 15.8-inch floating center digital display that already comes with built-in and downloadable applications, and space that can haul 2,100 liters of cargo.

Offered in three options namely Rear-Wheel Drive, Long Range, and Performance, the Tesla Model Y (on paper) can accelerate zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in as fast as 3.7 seconds and can cover up to 533 kilometers (based on Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure [WLTP> standards).

Model 3 details

Serving as the brand’s entry point to its roster, the Tesla Model 3 is 4,719.32 mm long; 1,932.94 mm wide; and 1,440.18 mm tall with a 137.16-mm ground clearance.

Wearing a sophisticated look, the purely-electric sedan is outfitted with hidden door handles, bold beltlines on each side, 10-spoke alloy wheels, and trapezoidal headlights.

Inside, the vehicle also has the same features as the Tesla Model in terms of its infotainment system, steering wheel — providing a no-nonsense look inside the cabin.

Aside from the product unveiling, the company also opened its flagship showroom in the country called the “Tesla Experience Center” in Uptown Parade — signaling the start of pre-orders. Per Tesla, it will begin delivering units by early next year.

Further, four Tesla Superchargers will be established at Uptown Mall soon. The said facilities will be available on a pay-per-use basis with rates starting at P19 per kilowatt-hour. A full charge for Tesla vehicles is approximately P1,140.
