Toyota PH quietly adds HEV variants to Corolla Altis lineup

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) quietly added two electrified variants of the Corolla Altis, bolstering its hybrid offerings and making electrified mobility more accessible to Filipinos.

The two new models — which are the E HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) CVT and G HEV CVT — slot in between the base E CVT grade and range-topping GR-S HEV CVT trim and offer a decent amount of niceties for car buyers looking for a sedan with a new-energy powertrain.

Here is a quick look at what one can expect from the new variants:

Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8 E HEV CVT

Bearing the “E” badge, the Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8 E HEV CVT comes in as the entry-level hybrid variant for the nameplate.

Notable exterior appointments come in the form of headlamps with LED daytime running lights, smoked LED combination taillamps, a high-mount stop lamp, and a rear spoiler. 

It rides on a set of 16-inch alloy wheels fitted with 205/55-series tires.

The cabin is equipped with a seven-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a nine-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, with audio blasted to a four-speaker sound system.

Available is a 12-volt power socket as well as a single-zone climate control system. There are comfortable leather seats with a steering wheel with controls for display, audio, phone, voice command, cruise control, and lane tracing assist.

Power comes from the 2ZR-FXE engine with a displacement size of 1,798 cubic centimeters, mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), generating a maximum power output of 120 horsepower and a maximum torque of 142 Newton-meters.

Stopping power is facilitated by ventilated disc brakes at the fore and solid disc brakes at the back.

Its safety features include the following:

• Anti-lock braking
• Vehicle stability control
• Hill-start assist control
• Pre-collision system
• Automatic high beam
• Lane tracing assist
• Lane departure alert
• Rear parking sensors
• Dynamic radar cruise control

The Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8 E HEV CVT costs P1.504 million.

Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8 G HEV CVT

Offering a slightly premium package is the Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8 G HEV CVT.

Its exterior features include all-LED lighting with LED front fog lamps for improved visibility in most driving conditions. The wheel size grew by an inch with 17-inch alloys shod in 225/45 highway tires. 

The said variant retains much of what the aforementioned E grade has to offer, but now has six audio speakers for a more immersive experience.

It also has leather seats, with the driver getting an eight-way power adjustability feature with lumbar support. The front passenger seat has a four-way manual setup.

For comparison’s sake, the Toyota Corolla Altis E HEV CVT has a driver’s seat with a six-way manual adjustment system and a front passenger seat with a four-way manual control.

Power output is the same as the Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8 G HEV CVT, which is equipped with a similar hybrid system, also packing a 43-liter gasoline fuel tank.

In the area of safety, the higher grade Toyota Corolla Altis hybrid gets additional technology like a blind spot monitor.

All the added features give the Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8 G HEV CVT a P1.617 million sticker price.
