Toyota Motor PH recalls Yaris Cross HEV units over glass roof issues

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is recalling Toyota Yaris Cross HEV units on possible issues pertaining to their glass roofs.

In its advisory, TMP shared that 5,086 units produced on May 29, 2023-November 18, 2024 are covered in the latest recall order.

According to the automotive distributor, affected vehicles may have the incorrect amount of glass primer applied on them that could result in possible reduced adhesive bond between the roof panel and the glass roof.

“If the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition the worst-case scenario is that the Panoramic Roof Glass may detach from the vehicle roof, increasing the risk of accident to other road users,” TMP noted.

TMP assured that they will notify involved customers through Official Notification Letters and be invited by authorized Toyota Dealers to inspect the Panoramic Roof Glass. Should there be any necessary repairs or replacements that will be conducted, they will be done free of charge to the vehicle owners.

Further, customers may also check if the Toyota vehicle is included in any active Service Campaign at https://online.toyota.com.ph/service-campaign.

“Involved customers with vehicles included in the service campaign are highly encouraged to immediately set an appointment with any authorized Toyota dealer to perform the necessary inspection and if necessary, repair / replace the Panoramic Roof Glass to prevent problems from occurring,” the company added.

Additionally, affected clients may also opt to schedule the repair during the periodic maintenance appointment “if the vehicle is already due or approaching its regular maintenance schedule.”

Late last year, the same nameplate— particularly those built from May 29-September 4, 2023 became the subject of a recall order for possible “incorrectly tightened front shock absorber nuts.”

Some 3,378 Toyota Yaris Cross units were part of the recall order.

Per TMP, since the components “may not be adequately tightened,” they could become loose causing abnormal noise should the vehicle be operated continuously in this condition.

“In worst case, these nuts may come off, posing a risk to vehicle stability,” the company stressed.

Some are expected to be affected by the said issue.
