Toyota GR GT already in the pipeline for local market

CLARK: At the recently concluded second leg of the 2026 Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Philippines Cup, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) Senior Vice President for Marketing Sherwin Chua-Lim shared that the V8-powered GR GT is now in the pipeline for the local market. 

This is exciting news for Gazoo Racing fans and car enthusiasts, but for now, no exact dates were provided by TMP with regard to the halo sports car’s local arrival.

As such, the otherwise welcome development is unsurprising since the Toyota GR GT has not even finished its product development cycle. Even the cars that we’ve already seen online and in recent reports are still prototypes - this includes the ones presented during its global debut, and earlier still at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

On that note, let us wait for further updates from Toyota’s local arm regarding the Toyota GR GT’s local arrival timeline and Philippine-market specs.

Toyota GR GT: what we know so far

So, what do we know so far about this Gazoo Racing model?

As of its global debut, it is already known that the Toyota GR GT is propelled by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 gasoline engine paired with a totally new eight-speed automatic transmission. 

Furthermore, the car comes with a rear-wheel-drive model, and it will come equipped with a wet-start clutch” and a mechanical limited-slip differential. Additionally, the said nameplate is kitted out with a transaxle-integrated single-motor setup, qualifying it as a mild hybrid at the least. 

In total, the aforementioned powertrain has an estimated maximum output of 641 horsepower and 850 Newton-meters of torque. 

Notably, the Toyota GR GT is the brand’s first-ever model to be underpinned by a chassis made entirely out of aluminum. This contributes to a high-tensile-strength but very lightweight platform, which will also see additional weight savings thanks to the heavy use of carbon fiber. 

The car’s interior, on the other hand, will come with a motorsport-inspired cockpit that mixes sportiness and tech. As far as the prototype goes, it has significantly bolstered bucket seats, plenty of physical buttons, and a set of sizeable digital displays.
