Dubbed “Araw ng Tamaraw,” the official introduction of the revived model simultaneously took place in eight locations nationwide, namely Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Trinoma in Quezon City, Ayala Malls Solenad in Laguna, SM City Pampanga, SM City Cebu, SM Lanang Premier in Davao City, and Limketkai Center in Cagayan de Oro City.

    Powertrain, chassis

The next-generation Toyota Tamaraw — which is called Hilux Champ in other markets like Thailand — is built on the Japanese carmaker’s new International Multi-purpose Vehicle 0 (IMV 0) platform for the Asian market.

Would-be owners can choose from two different powertrain options, which are a 2.4-liter diesel mill or a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. The former is paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed slush box. Meanwhile, the latter is available only with a five-speed manual transmission.

Fleet owners and operators or adventure-seeking car buyers can expect the diesel-fed powerplant to dish out some 147 horsepower with 343 to 400 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. On the other hand, the gasoline engine can put out some 137 horses with 183 Nm of pulling power.

Handling deceleration and halts are disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Supporting the IMV 0 platform are independent front suspension coils and rigid leaf springs at the rear.

    Available body types

Since the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw (much like the revived Lite Ace) is touted primarily as a light commercial vehicle, the default body types presented by Toyota are focused on commerce.

The company staged a roll-out ceremony not too long ago in its factory at Santa Rosa, Laguna

“It is the third locally produced model here in our Santa Rosa Plant – built by Filipinos, for Filipinos! It is a testament to our commitment to nation building, our belief in Filipino craftsmanship, and our continuing mission to create ever-better cars for the Philippines,” TMP Chairman Alfred Ty said in a press release.
