Toyota PH conducts week-long training for tech-voc trainers from Asia Pacific

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines School of Technology (TMP Tech) facilitated technical training for the representatives of 13 member countries of intergovernmental organization Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC), including the Philippines.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the member countries of intergovernmental organization Colombo Plan Staff College?

The member countries of Colombo Plan Staff College are Bangladesh, Bhutan, Fiji, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
  • What were the courses delivered by TMP Tech instructors during the week-long training?

Courses on Gasoline and Diesel Engine Control, Electronically Controlled Transmission, Continuously Variable Transmission, and Toyota’s Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technology were created and delivered by TMP Tech officials and instructors.
  • The objective of this week-long program, which is the second phase of the “Training of Trainers on Automotive Technical Professionals” activity under the triadic collaboration between TMP Tech, CPSC, and Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation, Inc. (TMPF),  is to improve technical-vocational training in the Asia and the Pacific region.

18 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) experts from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Fiji, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand joined the program. Two Filipino TMP Tech instructors also participated.

The courses and practical exercises on Gasoline and Diesel Engine Control, Electronically Controlled Transmission, Continuously Variable Transmission, and Toyota’s Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Technology were created and delivered by TMP Tech officials and instructors. The participants' study visit to the nearby Toyota Santa Rosa, Laguna for a hands-on look at dealership workshop operations marked the end of the fifth training day.

The participants completed the first phase of the program virtually, which TMP Tech also organized in August 2021. The Toyota Way, Toyota's approach to customer service, after-sales operations, and technologies were the main topics of this initial phase.

Under the terms of the triadic collaboration agreement, TMP Tech will continue to provide expertise in expanded collaborative activities for TVET, research, cross-country faculty and staff exchange, and human resource development.

Having established its foothold as an automotive TVET training and assessment institution in more than nine years, TMP Tech continues to expand its potential as a go-to venue for training needs regarding technical to non-technical skills, hard to soft skills. The institution wants to provide both public and private organizations inside and beyond the Toyota Network with a variety of trainings that are industry-based, forward-thinking, and inclusive.

TMP Tech offers specialized courses that can be tailored to meet the needs of the customer. In addition to various short courses like Automotive Body Collision and Damage Evaluation Training for assessors of insurance companies and Automotive Servicing for truck and bus businesses, TMP Tech also offers its long to short-term training-to-employment training programs for international partners.

According to TMP Tech, the industry-wide need for trainings is rising as a result of the early stages of motorization in the country and the development of connected services from the domains of Vehicle Ownership. The institution also remarked that this is proven by the increasing number of local and international partners from different industries.

Customized training programs have been provided by TMP Tech since its first strategic alliance with Abdul Latif Jameel Import & Distribution Co. Ltd. (ALJID), an independent Toyota distributor in Saudi Arabia. Since 2013, TMP Tech has been successful in providing jobs abroad, including Japan, to around 300 graduates through the flagship Specialized Automotive Training Program (STATP) and other similar programs geared to train Toyota Pro-Technicians and Diagnostic Technicians.
