Toyota sold over 10 million vehicles in 2018

MANILA: Over 10 million vehicles from the stables of the Japanese automobile expert found a home in the year 2018. While 2018 was a difficult one for many automobile markets including the Philippines, there was no stopping for Toyota as the automaker sold around 10.6 million vehicles across the globe.

The sales number, however, also include the vehicles sold by the subsidiaries of Toyota, Daihatsu, Hino, and Lexus. While Daihatsu traded 848,000 vehicles in total, Hino produced 204,000 sales. To our no surprise,

Toyota and Lexus racked up the most number of sales as the two brands sold 9,524,000 vehicles over of the course of a year. The total sales combining the four brands add up to 10,594,000 units, which is almost 10.6 million vehicles in a year. Quite amazing, ha?

In its homeland, Japan, the manufacturer sold 1,564,309 vehicles, which is 4.2 % less than in 2017. While the sales of trucks and buses increased by 0.6 %, passenger cars went down by 4.8 %. Moreover, Lexus alone sold 55,100 units in Japan which is an increase of 20.8 % when compared to the previous year.

Talking more about sales in Japan, Daihatsu sold 646,874 units and Hino traded 70,808 buses and trucks. The two brands saw an increase of 2.5 & and 4.5 %, respectively. However, the overall sales in Japan went down by 2.1 %.

Talking about Toyota Philippines in particular, the sales charts declined by 16.57 %. Moving on to the other markets in the world, while Toyota sold 7,977,000 vehicles, Daihatsu and Hino accounted for 201,000 and 133,000 sales, respectively. As a result, Toyota, Lexus, Daihatsu, and Hino were able to trade 8,312,000 vehicles in different markets worldwide excluding Japan, their homeland.

Toyota has recently introduced the all-new Supra and is all set to bring out the updated Land Cruiser as well. With that, we should also be seeing a new model of the Lexus LX. The year 2019 is going to be a busy one for the manufacturer and we believe these sales numbers will only go up.
