Toyota’s “Start Your Impossible” Campaign kickstarts with a nationwide coastal clean-up

MANILA: Toyota Motors Philippines (TMP) kickstart a nationwide simultaneous coastal clean-up and mangrove planting drive last weekend. It comes under the company’s “Start Your Impossible” Campaign and is part of TMP’s corporate social responsibility.

The “Start Your Impossible” Campaign is a global initiative by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) to mobilize people by empowering them to move past their barriers and defy limits to reach their goals and make a difference in society.

In the opening program of the campaign at Lian Mangrove Park, Batangas, TMP President Satoru Suzuki emphasized on the importance of every volunteer collectively making a difference, “with each and every volunteer cleaning up the coasts and planting mangrove seedlings, all spread out across 35 locations nationwide, we are indeed starting our impossible, one place at a time. If we continue doing these small acts for our environment, soon, our big vision of building sustainable communities will become possible.”

Toyota’s Start your Impossible Coastal Clean-up and Mangrove Planting Campaign was inspired by Filipino champion para-athlete Ernie Gawilan who advocates for cleaner oceans. During the opening of the campaign, Gawilan, who grew up in a coastal community in Davao said, “wag po tayong magsawang tulungan yung mundo natin. Maraming salamat kasi may mga tao pang nagpapahalaga sa kalikasan (Let’s not get tired of helping our planet. I’m thankful that there are still people who care for the environment).

Gawilan, together with fellow para-athlete Edwin Villanueva and his team from the Philippine Paralympic Committee, joined the clean-up and mangrove planting activity in the Batangas leg.

The success of Start your Impossible Coastal Clean-up and Mangrove Planting movement was made possible in partnership with TMP’s dealership network, the national government, 35 local government units located in the coastal areas of Metro Manila, and other provinces spread over the Philippines including Batangas, Bulacan, Rizal, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Ilocos Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Mindoro, Negros Oriental, Samar, Bohol, Cebu, Bukidnon, Davao, Agusan del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Misamis Oriental, Lanao Del Norte, South Cotabato. In total, the 1,900 volunteers were able to plant 40,000 mangrove propagules and collected 1,200 sacks of garbage by the end of the activity.
