WATCH: Volkswagen PH ambassador Gary V talks about car care during lockdown

MANILA: During this period of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), most people have been stuck in their homes to help contain the spread of COVID-19. Of course, many tips and strategies may have been released on how to keep one’s body safe, protected, and healthy against the dreaded coronavirus.

Now, Volkswagen Philippines ambassador and "Mr. Pure Energy" Gary Valenciano (or Gary V) shares in a short video a few tips on how to take care of a vehicle amid the ECQ.

It was during the “We Move You” campaign launch of Volkswagen Philippines last February 22, 2020 at Trinoma, Quezon City, that Gary V was declared as the brand’s newest ambassador. Gary V has been an iconic figure in television, film, and music for more than three decades. Volkswagen Philippines sees Gary V as the epitome of someone who can move and uplift people, especially during these trying times.

One of Gary V’s car care tips  is to park vehicles in a garage as much as possible. This is one way of protecting the car against theft, paint scratches, or body dents. But if the car owner is left with no choice but to park it in the open, it is advisable to find a secure spot.

Gary V also suggested some ways on how to sanitize the interior of the car. He said that soap and water is still the best approach against COVID-19. It is best to avoid using bleach except on pure plastics, and that solvent use is also discouraged when cleaning the car.

He said to use leather conditioners instead of hand sanitizers to keep the leather surfaces healthy. The Volkswagen ambassador told everyone that if there are doubts in terms of cleaning agents and solvents, it is best to try it first on car surfaces that cannot be seen easily.

In the video, it was also explained that cleaning agents should not be left too long on car surfaces and that it they need to be wiped off immediately. Gary V also stated that when cleaning the car, priority should be given to the surfaces that are commonly touched like the brakes, door handles, steering wheel, buttons, switches, rearview mirror, and gas cap.

If cars have been parked outdoors, it is also advised to raise the wiper rubber blades as a prevention measure against deterioration, especially during the hot summer days.

Towards the last part of the video, Gary V also explained that it is not advisable to park cars under fruit-bearing trees since birds can linger on such trees, and bird droppings cannot be removed easily from car paint. Moreover, tree sap can also leave some stains which can damage car paint as well.

On a final note, Gary V told everyone that Volkswagen understands how much car owners give importance to their vehicles and that adequate care of the car equates to proper self-care as well.
