VW's latest Golf GTI TCR concept unveiled

MANILA: At Wörthersee, Volkswagen revealed the Golf GTI TCR and this production-ready hot hatch is believed to roll out later this year. This race-inspired TCR by the German automaker is only a concept vehicle now but is claimed to be a “near production ready” model. The latest model offers better performance and comes with upgraded tech.

The hot hatch is powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Power is funnelled to the front wheels solely through a DSG seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Golf GTI TCR generates a power of 290 PS and produces a peak torque of 370 Nm. The engine comes with an extra pair of radiators to offer additional cooling. No announcement on the acceleration reading has been made yet.

The vehicle comes corporated with 18-inch Belvedere wheels as standard. An optional enhanced package includes 19-inch wheels. TCR comes with a bumper at the front along with a front splitter and large-sized air intakes. One can spot a rear bumper with a robust diffuser and new side skirts. When the door of this 5-seater car opens, the TCR logo projects onto the ground. Akrapovic titanium exhaust might also be available as an optional feature.

The cabin features an enhanced version of the signature Tartan seat, designed with a red cross-hash marking and microfiber cloth inserts. The steering wheel comes leather-wrapped and features a red stripe above. Microfiber trimming is spotted on the door panel as well. The cabin is equipped with the company’s digital cockpit that comes as a standard feature and it also gets an advanced infotainment system.

Golf GTI TCR might hit the roads of Europe first and there is no such plan of the company yet to make it bound for the Asian shores. In the previous year, Volkswagen introduced a mild hybrid hatch, Golf GTI First Decade at the Wörthersee. The price value of the TCR has not been hinted till now, but it might cost around £35,000 (2470223.03 Philippine Piso).
