Waymo’s first self-driving Pacifica Hybrid Minivan revealed

MANILA: Last week we informed about Waymo - Google’s self-driving unit and things picked up really quick as the first car from this independent unit is already out. Yes, Waymo has revealed Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid-based fully autonomous minivan with the latest hardware, several revamped sensors, as well as a new computer.

In May 2016, Google and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) joined hands to build at least 100 driverless cars for Waymo and now they are ready with the finished product. The production of Pacifica started in last October but, Waymo already had a few units running around as prototypes for testing. The joint venture has successfully tested the prototype for more than 200 hours in extreme weather and various traffic conditions.

 

Most of the stringent tests were conducted at the FCA’s Chelsea Proving Grounds and the Arizona Proving Grounds. The remaining tests were conducted at the Waymo’s own test track in California.

According to Waymo’s CEO, John Krafcik, all the 100 self-driving Pacific Hybrid minivans will start testing on public roads beginning 2017. For now, we don’t have much information about the latest minivan from Waymo but, we are sure that soon, the automobile industry will see a great revolution.
