Yet another false emission test, Suzuki and Mazda apologised
MANILA: There have been a lot of scandals in the auto industry of Japan. And there have been a few manufacturers earlier in Japan who have given false reports regarding the emission test. Recently, Suzuki and Mazda have also joined this list. They have been indulging inappropriate testing of their vehicles and producing false emission and fuel economy tests.
After Nissan Motor and Subaru produced false data in early 2018, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of Japan had ordered all the automakers to go through the testing procedures all over again and submit the fresh reports. The tests were done on the vehicles which were previously used for the earlier done quality assurance test. It was found out that they were going through the test under inaccurate conditions.
But, not just once, Suzuki motors have previously done tests under improper conditions on 6,401 out of 12,819 units which were produced since 2012. Even the Mazda Motor was recorded to have done inappropriate tests on 72 out of 1875 vehicles manufactured since 2014.
The acts done by the automakers have increased the scrutiny. In 2015, Volkswagen AG from Germany has also admitted that they have been installing software secretly in the diesel cars of the US and faking the emission reports. A test was conducted to find out 11 million cars worldwide had the secret software.
Due to these frauds, the shares of Suzuki Motor has fallen by 6 percent and that of Mazda Motor by 1.3 percent. There was a news conference held where the senior managing executive officer of Mazda, Kiyotaka Shobuda told people that the alterations made were not done deliberately. Also, the quality of the cars was not affected due to the false emission tests. The manufacturers didn't break any law of the country. The cars did pass the emission test when performed under valid conditions. There was only a slight alteration in the speed which was acceptable.
The reputation of the automakers of Japan has fallen down drastically worldwide which resulted in the loss of shares. The companies should comply with the regulations made by the industry to prevent further damage to their sales. Let’s see which manufacturer joins this infamous league in the future.
