LTO issues SCOs vs identified participants in BOSS Ironman Cup

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has released a pair of show cause orders on identified rider-participants of the recently-held BOSS (BMW Owners Society of Safe Riders) Ironman Mindanao Cup.

In a statement, the agency said that the orders were issued following an initial investigation into incidents seen over social media sites, news publications, and police reports that revealed serious traffic violations linked to the event held last January 31-February 1. 

Per LTO, the first order covered findings that showed some participants exceeding the maximum speed limit (80 kilometers per hour on open national roads) — violating Republic Act 4136 (also known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code).

Aside from that, video footage confirmed unauthorized use of blinkers, sirens, and aftermarket auxiliary lights and obstruction to free traffic flow at intersections.

Meanwhile, the second order cited evidence of reckless driving, obstruction of traffic, improper person to operate a motor vehicle, disregard for mandated vehicle handling protocols, property damage, and injuries to pedestrians and bystanders.

Following the release of the orders, all directed riders need submit their verified or sworn explanations before the LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) and along with original supporting documents. Failure to comply will be deemed waiver of their rights to respond, and the LTO will proceed with its investigation. Riders may be assisted by legal counsel during proceedings. 

 “The LTO remains steadfast in enforcing traffic laws to safeguard every road user in the Philippines. While we recognize the enthusiasm that motorsport and community events can generate, such activities must never come at the cost of public safety and order. We call on the BOSS Ironman organizer and all participating riders to fully cooperate with our investigation,” Lacanilao noted.

“These violations serve as a critical reminder that all motor vehicle-related events must adhere strictly to regulatory requirements, and we will take necessary administrative action to prevent recurrence. Our priority will always be to ensure our roads are safe for everyone,” he added.
