Yamaha bags 6th Red Dot Award with new MOTOROiD: Λ

MANILA: Yamaha Motor Corporation bagged its sixth Red Dot Award in the Design Concept category, this time with the latest iteration of its concept motorcycle — the MOTOROiD: Λ (Lambda).

This is the third version so far, with the first two aptly named Yamaha MOTOROiD and MOTOROiD 2, both of which scored the same honors. 

Of note, the former won the Red Dot Award: Design Concept award in 2018, and the latter nabbing the same accomplishment last year.

“The award-winning MOTOROiD: Λ was revealed in 2025 and is part of the original MOTOROiD project launched in 2017 to explore new possibilities for human-machine relationships,” Yamaha Motor Corporation wrote in a press release.

“A proof-of-concept model, MOTOROiD: Λ is designed to learn and evolve autonomously while showing the process of its growth-including its failures. This aims to create a new dynamic in which people and machines share time while learning and growing alongside one another,” it added.

AI-driven concept

While the Yamaha MOTOROiD and MOTOROiD 2 were both defined by a battery positioned between the front and rear wheels, and the use of Active Mass Center Control System (AMCES) to enable self-balancing capabilities, the MOTOROiD: Λ takes it on another level.

This time, the motorcycle manufacturer explained, AMCES gives way to the key technologies of reinforcement learning and Sim2Real. 

As such, the Yamaha MOTOROiD:Λ is defined by three key elements: artificial intelligence (AI)-based reinforcement learning, a design and colors that embrace even failure as a value, and a chassis engineered to enable movements that go beyond imagination.

“Through MOTOROiD: Λ, Yamaha Motor is proposing a new perspective on durable goods in which products gain greater value over time through long-term companionship,” Yamaha Motor Corporation wrote.
