Yamaha Motor invests in French EV company

MANILA: Yamaha Motor has invested in Electric Motion, a French company that specializes in electric vehicles (EV).

Per the Japanese motorcycle marquee, Electric Motion develops and manufactures electric motorcycles for trials and off-road riding. 

According to Yamaha, the aim of the investment is to raise the presence of both companies in the electric motorcycle market as well as to delve into the possibilities available with electric motorcycles for competition. 

Yamaha and Electric Motion plan to become strategic partners and bring together their respective expertise and capabilities to explore collaborative avenues in technology development. 

“Yamaha Motor, in line with its Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050, is working toward being carbon neutral throughout all of its supply chains, including the company’s business activities by 2050,” the company wrote in a press release. 

“As we strive to achieve a more sustainable world, Yamaha Motor will continue to promote the research and development of technologies and products that contribute to sustainability,” it added.

Yamaha sustainability in PH 

At the moment, Yamaha is yet to release an electric motorcycle in the Philippines.

However, it has equipped one of its offerings here in the country with hybrid technology. The Fazzio small displacement scooter is fitted with the motorcycle manufacturer’s Blue Core Hybrid engine. 

It works by pairing the 124.86 cubic centimeter (cc) engine with a power-assist system — which Yamaha pointed out — augments the driving force when starting from a stop.
