Ferrari 296 GTS Interior & Features
The Ferrari 296 GTS’ interior is defined by a blend of state-of-the-art tech features and a sophisticated-looking beige trim. Admittedly, its cabin can feel a bit cramped for taller or larger occupants when the roof is closed. However, lowering the roof transforms the experience, offering an enjoyable sense of openness and an engaging open-air drive. Its seats are also well-padded and ergonomic, while its frunk (front trunk) offers usable space for your cargo. You also get a wireless charger for your smartphone.
Like the 296 GTB, the GTS integrates the instrument cluster and the infotainment system into a single driver-focused display. Exclusive to the driver is a high-tech sports steering wheel with touch controls for various vehicle functions. However, the extensive use of touch-sensitive controls may not appeal to those accustomed to conventional physical knobs and buttons. On the bright side, its digital interface is fairly responsive.
Aside from that, the co-pilot also gets his or her own display for enhanced passenger convenience and a personalized entertainment experience. Its infotainment is paired with a 6-speaker sound system. The GTS’ cabin also features aero flaps integrated into the rear trim, which are unique to the model. Overall, the 296 GTS’ interior layout offers a respectable mix of comfort, modern technology, and luxurious styling.
296 GTS Exterior
For starters, the Ferrari 296 GTS measures 4,565 mm in length, 1,958 mm in width, and 1,191 mm in height. This open-topped, plug-in hybrid sports car also comes with a 2,600-mm wheelbase.
The 296 GTS’ exterior appearance strikes a balance between elegance and premium sportiness. At the front, it features a clean, tapered design highlighted by Ferrari’s iconic teardrop-shaped LED headlights. It also comes with a low central grille and the Italian marque’s signature ‘tea-tray’ aerodynamic panel, which is integrated into the sports car’s sharp front bumper.
From the side, its sculpted doors with flush handles, prominent air intakes, and muscular rear haunches create a dynamic profile, while the retractable hardtop (that can be raised or lowered in 14 seconds at speeds up to 45 kmph) seamlessly blends into the design when closed. The Ferrari badge is also proudly displayed on both sides. This open-topped sports car runs on 20-inch wheels with blacked-out rims, further enhancing its dominant, high-performance character on the road.
At the back, its tonneau cover helps preserve the sleek, aerodynamic profile of a coupe. Like the 296 GTB, the GTS features an active spoiler that provides additional downforce, contributing to its impressive agility on the open road. This open-topped sports car is fitted with slim LED tail lights, an aggressive-looking diffuser, as well as a centrally-positioned exhaust outlet.
Ferrari 296 GTS Ride & Handling
The Ferrari 296 GTS is equipped with a Double Wishbone suspension at the front and a Multi-Link at the rear. Its suspension setup is supported by Ferrari’s 6-way Chassis Dynamic Sensor (6W-CDS). This open-topped sports car feels smooth and plush on the highway while remaining sharp and precise through twists and turns. It feels more at home on wide, smooth, open roads than in the city. That said, the 296 GTS is a respectable grand tourer and a more capable high-speed cruiser.
296 GTS Engine & Fuel Consumption
The 296 GTS is powered by Ferrari’s plug-in hybrid technology that combines a 3L 120-degree V6 turbo engine, which produces 663 cv (654 hp) of maximum power and 740 Nm of maximum torque, with an electric motor. Combined, its entire plug-in hybrid powertrain delivers a total output of 830 cv (819 hp). This open-topped sports car comes mated to Ferrari’s 8-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission system.
Despite being heavier than its coupe counterpart, the 296 GTS remains exceptionally quick off the line, going from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.9 seconds while achieving a top speed greater than 330 kmph. Its impressive performance is complemented by its responsive F1 DCT and highly effective aerodynamics. It feels smooth and refined, yet lets out a majestic soundtrack when the V6 engine comes to life.
Ferrari 296 GTS Braking & Safety
In terms of braking, the Ferrari 296 GTS comes with a four-wheel disc setup. Its braking setup is supported by Ferrari’s ABS EVO, high-performance ABS with EBD (with energy recovery), and electronic traction control (ETC). This open-topped sports car is also equipped with Ferrari’s Electronic Side Slip Control (ESSC), Dynamic Enhancer 2.0 (FDE 2.0), and an Electronic Differential (E-DIFF), among others.
296 GTS Verdict
The Ferrari 296 GTS combines exciting electrified performance with the freedom of open-top driving. Its sharp dynamics, refined road manners, and exhilarating V6 soundtrack make it a truly captivating Ferrari.
