Its length is almost that of a full-sized van but its road presence, you can’t even match with any other SUV around. The impact it creates while on road can send chills to any standing vehicle or any car passing by its side. Currently offered in its fourth generation, the Ford Expedition is now based on the T3 platform which it shares with the Lincoln Navigator and the Ford F-150. The major highlight of the SUV is its cargo space which now is stretched up to 3,400 litres. Outside, the vehicle gets a redesigned grille, garnished in chrome. For getting inside this mammoth SUV you have a set of motorized step boards which get nicely tucked into the body of the car once the passengers get in. As you get inside the SUV, you are welcomed with a nicely designed cabin with a lot of boot space. The dashboard design is very modern and dynamic and the centre-console also has a lot of space wherein you can store almost everything you want. Placed at the centre-instrument cluster is a 4.2-inch colour LCD screen, integrated with Ford SYNC and My-Ford Touch application, AM/FM stereo, single-CD player, MP3 capability and 6 speakers.
Coming to the driver seat. It is powered by a 10-way motorized unit, offering utmost comfort and convenience to the driver. The SUV also has panoramic sunroof so that abundance of light can enter the cabin, making it look even more bright and huge.
Talking about the designing features you get a semi-digital gauge cluster, ambient lighting, and wireless charging, contrasting the multi-utility dashboard. Generally, the rear seating row of SUV’s are not very comfortable in terms of headroom and legroom space, but the Ford Expedition is an exception. The rear row is as spacious as the front and the middle rows. For pleasure and convenience of the occupants, the middle and rear rows also have air-conditioning vents and charging points. Cargo space is immense and you get up to 3,440 Litres if you fold all of the seats. As a prominent feature, the SUV also gets electronic seat tumblers so that you don’t have to play much with straps and levers.
Just as the interior aesthetics of the SUV are mesmerizing, the exterior designing and layout are also top-notch. The most appealing character of the exterior is the halogen projector headlights and satin Aluminium grille painted across chrome accents to lead you to the ultimate driving reality through its built.
Coming to the side profile of the SUV, it is truly a sight to behold. Riding on massive 20-inch alloy wheels, the side profile looks dominating. Moving over to the rear fascia of the SUV, we see stylish LED tail-lights which upgrade the style quotient of the vehicle. To facilitate easy loading of bulky goods, there is a chrome liftgate in nice satin-aluminium finishing, and the accent bar is contoured on the SUV body which measures 5232 mm x 2001 mm x 1960 mm (L x W x H) in dimensions.
At the heart of this mammoth lies a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine, churning out a maximum power of 370 PS at 5000 rpm along with a peak torque of 569 Nm at 2250 rpm. It comes packed with a 6-speed automatic transmission with select shift enable for four-wheel drive. Expedition can deliver a mileage of 14.7 l/100km in city driving and 10.7 l/100km on highway runways. To pick-up a top speed of 100 kmph from halt, this car takes 9.2 seconds and it reaches a speed of 182 kmph while keeping it smooth and seamless at the same time.
Ford Expedition is by far the most comfortable SUV and the braking and safety features are also top-notch. The suspension set-up is harmonized with the anti-lock braking system and 4-wheel power disc brakes. The suspension performance is mated with shifts to rollover from normal, comfort to sport driving modes. Advanced Trac with RSC (Roll Stability Control) system manages speed variations and balance the sliding and skidding of this huge vehicle. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System of this vehicles keeps a track on the tire pressure for a safer drive.
