The JMC JMEV EV2’s cabin comes with a beige interior finish with turquoise accents, which has that modern, youthful vibe that other new-gen mini EVs also have. Upfront, you are greeted by a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display that is equipped with a smartphone mirroring function, Bluetooth hands-free, and a USB input, and is linked to a 2-speaker sound system. 

Drivers get a high-tech cockpit, which is quite impressive for its price point. This includes a dot matrix digital instrument display, a urethane-wrapped electronic power steering wheel, and a modern-looking gear dial. For more functionality and convenience, this EV also comes with a 12V power socket, a USB-A charging port, as well as five bottle/cup holders around the cabin (front: 3, rear: 2).

In terms of comfort and practicality, its first row offers ample amount of headroom and legroom for both the driver and the front passenger, while the second row is more ideal for children or small passengers in general. At the back, the trunk offers enough space for a couple’s light grocery run, and is more than sufficient for solo use.

In terms of dimensions, the JMC JMEV EV2 measures 3,500 mm in length, 1,646 mm in width, and 1,460 mm in height. This EV hatch also comes with a wheelbase of 2,340 mm and a ground clearance of 110 mm.

Right off the bat, the JMEV EV2 looks like a more playful version of its slightly-bigger sibling, the EV3. It features a two-toned facade, accentuated by a sporty-looking black bumper with a triangular pattern and a smooth panel that connects the two projector-type halogen headlamps. 

Meanwhile, its side profile displays a youthful contrast of colours. It comes with white door handles and two-toned door mirrors with integrated halogen turn signal lights. Additionally, black side garnishes and a set of 14-inch aluminum alloy wheels also add more sportiness to this hatchback’s overall appearance on the road.

At the back, it flaunts a hot hatch-like design, complemented by its blacked-out tailgate and triangular panels that house its fog lamps. Similar to the front end, its rear also gets halogen tail lamps with an LED high-mount brake lamp for enhanced visibility, especially at night.

The JMC JMEV EV2 comes with a MacPherson independent suspension at the front and a Trailing Arm at the rear. This setup is credited for this EV’s light steering and nimble maneuvering inside the traffic-heavy city. It can also absorb small bumps quite decently. However, it wouldn’t be advisable to drive this through uneven concrete roads with large humps and deep potholes considering its low ground clearance. 

Powering the JMC JMEV EV2 is a single permanent magnet synchronous motor paired with a 15.9-kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, which offers a 201-km CLTC driving range. Its electric powertrain generates a power output of 26 kW (35 PS) and a torque output of 84 Nm. This EV hatch utilizes a front-wheel drivetrain. 

While its electric powertrain may struggle at higher speeds or during quick overtakes, it remains capable enough for everyday city driving. It can still make your daily Metro Manila commute easier and hassle-free. However, its range is a bit on the limited side of things. Hence, this EV is suitable more for short-distance commutes and personal leisure trips than full-on road trips.

In terms of safety, the JMC JMEV EV2 is equipped with rear parking sensors and a reverse camera. It also comes with a tire pressure monitoring system, a vehicle immobilizer with an anti-theft system, multiple seatbelts with built-in ISOFIX child anchors, and a driver’s airbag.

This EV utilizes ventilated discs for front braking and drums for the rear. Its braking setup is also supported by an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, hydraulic brake assist, and hill-start assist. 

The JMC JMEV EV2 stands out as a practical and cost-effective first full-EV option among career-driven young professionals and budget-oriented couples. It is a feature-packed EV that delivers immense city-friendliness, while undercutting the majority of its direct rivals in terms of price.
