Tiny EV hatch makes for a great in-city daily driver
The small city-car segment of electric vehicles (EV) is clearly getting traction in the Philippine market. Sure, larger all-electric and hybrid crossovers are dominant right now, but a significant subset of buyers has begun to embrace the many subcompact EV nameplates for their good balance of practicality and affordability.

As a reminder, the said model was officially launched by JMC’s local arm back in June 2025.
Specs-wise, the JMC EV2 is a well-rounded hatchback, but does it have any weaknesses buyers should be aware of? Also, what are its key strengths? Let’s find out here.
Pros
Good amount of range
Despite its tiny size, the JMC EV2 has a considerable amount of all-electric range. To be more specific, it can cover up to 201 kilometers (km) according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

And while it may not look like it, its amount of range can likewise handle out-of-town trips, with some caveats, of course. Just make sure that the route you’re taking or the destination you’re heading to with the EV2 has EV chargers.
For reference, the JMC EV2 utilizes a 15.9-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery that can be charged via a 2-kilowatt (kW) alternating current GB/T port. It also has a regenerative braking system and a portable charger.
At maximum, the model can produce up to 34 horsepower and 84 Newton-meters of torque. The said output figure doesn’t sound much, but the model tips the scales at just 930 kilograms. Additionally, JMC says that it can reach a top speed of 105 kilometers per hour (kph).

The model also has the following amenities:
- Trunk lights
- Front and rear bottle/cup holders
- USB ports
- Keyless entry
- 12-volt accessory outlet
Positioned at the center of its dash is a nine-inch infotainment display with smartphone mirroring and Bluetooth. The said display is linked to a two-piece speaker set.
The exterior of the JMC EV2, on the other hand, has protector-type halogen headlamps and tailights, LED turn signal lamps, and rear fog lamps. It likewise rides on a set of 14-inch aluminum alloy wheels.
Safety-wise, the model has dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, anti-lock braking, and electronic brake-force distribution, hill-start assist, tire pressure monitoring, speed-sensing door locks, an anti-theft system, reverse camera, rear parking sensors, and an engine immobilizer.

Affordable with a strong warranty
Another clear strength of the JMC EV2 is its highly accessible price. Currently, the model is available at P668,000. The said price tag places it as a strong competitor against the VinFast VF3, Jetour Ice Cream, and BYD Seagull.
On top of its affordable price, the JMC EV2 also gets two warranty packages that will surely entice would-be adopters. First is a five-year, or 100,000 km (whichever comes first) vehicle warranty. Second is a separate eight-year, or 150,000 km warranty (whichever comes first) for its battery. Both are coupled with access to a 24/7 emergency roadside assistance service.

Cons
Rear seats can be tight for larger adults
On paper, the JMC EV2 is a four-seater model. Sure, two average-sized Filipinos can sit comfortably in the rear cabin, but folks on the taller (and wider) side may find it uncomfortable, especially for long rides.
Thankfully, the front cabin does have ample space for individuals with longer legs. Some elbow-rubbing, however, may be unavoidable when taking on corners or curved roads.

Final thoughts
While the BYD EV2 is an enticing buy due to its price tag, buyers should be aware that it doesn’t come with all the bells and whistles that many have come to expect from high-tech EV nameplates. A clear omission from its set of features is the lack of advanced driver-assist systems, and the absence of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
People who are highly aware of what they’re getting into with regard to the EV2, however, will have a no-nonsense ride that is highly optimized for in-city driving. As established, it has a decent amount of range, and due to its very compact size, it will be easy to maneuver through tight alleyways. It will also be easy to park.
In the end, however, we highly encourage would-be buyers to give the JMC EV2 a test drive first. Doing so, after all, is good practice and will make for a more complete automobile purchasing experience in the end.
