About Land Rover Philippines
Read MoreA better half wing of Jaguar, Land Rover has its history, going back to 1947. The brand as we know today was developed as an idea by a fellow British engineer, Maurice Fernand Cary Wilks. Wilks was a major technician at Jeep, at its time of formation during WWII.
Being a Chief Engineer in the company, Wilks designed the first-ever Land Rover prototype. The prototype used Jeep’s chassis and suspension. However, in its initial days, the car was used for farming and transporting goods, people to places.
With its own ups and downs, the brand finally launched its first officially-produced Land Rover, coming out of in 1948, known as the Land Rover Series I. Fast forward to the year 1967, after the production of the Land Rover Series II and Land Rover Series II-A, Land Rover joined hands with the British Leyland company and was then called as the Rover Triumph.
With the progress and the image that the brand has been creating since its production in 1948, the company went through a bad phase in 1975. The incident then forced the brand to part ways and later, was rebranded under the name ‘Land Rover Leyland Group’.
With its series of the undertaking, from British to BMW, it was in 2008 when the brand was finally sold off to Indian carmaker, Tata. Under Tata, the brand developed significantly in its product, design and sales. Currently, Land Rover is a mark of luxury around the globe.
In the Philippines, Coventry Motors Corporation is the official distributor of the Jaguar and Land Rover models. Currently, Jaguar offers five new car models in the Philippines. Lastly, the Land Rover Sports, Discovery, and Evoque are the chart-topping cars from the brand in their respective car segments.As per the sales report from 2019, Tata Motors reported a sale of 13,801 units of Jaguar Land Rover as of December. Similarly, Jaguar Land Rover achieved 125,787 units. For the year 2020, the company looks forward to a more electrified future for its cars.
