The first-ever all-electric car from Porsche, the Taycan, has been launched as a niche and super-premium offering from the German car marquee. Launched as a more premium four-door super-saloon over the Panamera, the all-new Porsche Taycan has been made available in the Philippines in its entire range – 4S, Turbo and Turbo S – all of which differ in terms of power output and few features.
The Porsche Taycan has that quintessential futuristic appeal in an even more pronounced form when you step inside its cabin. The interior cabin of the Porsche Taycan welcomes you with its array of full TFT screens. There is one for the instrument console behind the steering wheel, a touch-sensitive rectangular one in the middle of the center console for infotainment, another touchscreen interface on the passenger side of the dashboard for infotainment and a slanting one in the lower center console for automatic climate control and other mechanical adjustments related to suspension and battery. All of these screens offer multiple configurable display modes as per the choice of the user, and the cabin can be had in one of the thirteen different upholstery and trim combinations.
The Porsche Taycan shares a lot in common with its other stablemates when it comes to the exterior design, with its stance and design philosophy making it look a typical Porsche offering even from a distance. However, there are a few subtle highlights exclusive to the Taycan which give it its own identity.
At the front, the Porsche Taycan has got a familiar-looking front face with a sloping front bonnet which doesn’t get any grille at the front end, but bulges over the headlamps and fenders. The headlamps, here on the Taycan, look quite unique with their teardrop shape, which is very different from the rounded ones seen on other current generation Porsches. These headlamps have four-point LED headlights within them, and curved lateral air intakes attached to their outer corners. The large and wide air dam, as well as chin spoiler on the front bumper, gives it a supercar flavor.
The side profile of the Porsche Taycan takes a leaf from the design books of the Panamera, with the rounded roofline flowing nicely towards the boot. The bulging wheel arches look very sporty in sync with the large alloy wheels, whereas the air intakes recessed at the front edges of the front doors add to its sporty and aerodynamic appeal even more.
At the back too, the Porsche Taycan looks quite futuristic with its too rakish rear windscreen as well as super wide tail lamp cluster, with a long blacked out garnish in the middle and integrated boot spoiler above.
The extremely aerodynamic design of the Porsche Taycan, coupled with air intakes positioned at strategic places and four different drive modes – Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual – makes the overall driving experience not so different from the other desirable siblings of it. Despite an electric powertrain, the Porsche Taycan offers a thrilling experience behind the wheel, with the launch control helping in maximum possible acceleration.
The Porsche Taycan comes fitted with two permanent magnet synchronous electric motors – one on each axle – which in sync with the 800V battery transfers the power produced to all the four wheels. This powertrain combination, in the range-topping Turbo S, makes 761 PS of power and 1050 Nm of torque with the assistance of launch control. The Porsche Taycan is capable to hit the 100 kmph mark from standstill in just 2.8 seconds, making it one of the fastest all-electric cars in the world.
The overall sophisticated package of the Porsche Taycan is topped up by an extensive list of safety features, which includes adaptive cruise control, active lane keep assist, traffic jam assist, lane change assist, night vision assist, surround view system and many more conventional safety aids including airbags all around.
All the Porsches have already gained a stature of impeccable driver’s cars, with the Porsche Taycan taking that title one notch higher with the additional exclusivity and futuristic touch of an all-electric supercar.
