The 2022 Subaru BRZ is one of the most unique products in the overall lineup of Japanese carmakers in the Philippines. Sharing its basic architecture with the Toyota 86, the Subaru BRZ is a two-seater rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, which promises to offer an unadulterated driving experience. In the Philippines, the Subaru BRZ is available in a single variant with both the options of manual and automatic transmissions.
While the cabin of the Subaru BRZ now gets a few new modern bits and features, the overall layout still looks as if it belongs to at least half a decade-old car. However, the all-black cabin with contrast silver bits accentuates its sporty essence.
The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel now gets a full-TFT instrument console behind it, with revised designs for the number of gauges present in it. The centre console has got a functional design, but now neatly integrates a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity features. While there are slim looking AC vents above the screen, there are round-themed climate control knobs with toggle-like switches present below it. The corners of the dashboard have big and rounded AC vents, while the high-raised centre tunnel between the front seats accommodates the transmission lever.
In this latest version, the Subaru BRZ has evolved a lot from its predecessor. It is evident in the two-door coupe look of the sports car with a sloping roofline, and with all the design alterations, the BRZ now looks much sleeker and more modern than ever before.
At the front, the Subaru BRZ welcomes you with its minimalist-looking front fascia, which comprises a nicely curved bonnet, which ends up with a horizontally stretched air dam in the middle of the front bumper. The corners of this front bumper look edgy and come with bold looking air curtains for optimized aerodynamics. Just above these air curtains, the Subaru BRZ gets wraparound tail lamps, which look smart with LED projectors and daytime running LEDs neatly integrated into them.
From the side, the Subaru BRZ gets a stylish coupe-like look, which looks neat with the well-curved bonnet, sloping roofline and sweet-looking two-door layout. The front fender of the coupe gets angular air curtains just behind the front wheel, while the door panels come with rearview mirrors mounted on them. The car rides on 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The rear wheel arches are slightly flared, with the curve above them flowing towards the upper part of the boot lid which gives it an impression of having an integrated boot-mounted spoiler.
At the back, the Subaru BRZ looks much fresher than before, with revised boomerang-shaped tail lamps with LED inserts and a sleek horizontal reflector joining the tail lamps across the boot lid. At the bottom, the Subaru BRZ gets a dual exhaust port setup with one rounded outlet on each side of the diffuser.
Riding on 18-inch wheels with low-profile Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, the Subaru BRZ gets a suspension setup of Macpherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear. The suspension, with its stiffened setup and wider track width than before, makes the Subaru BRZ a dream to drive around corners. The steering setup of the Subaru BRZ too feels precise and well-connected to the driver inputs.
The Subaru BRZ gets a 2.4-litre inline-four Boxer petrol engine as its standard powertrain, which is offered with both the transmission options of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. This engine pumps out 228 bhp of maximum power and 250 Nm of maximum torque outputs.
Apart from the basics like the front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, front and reverse parking sensors, reverse camera, electronic stability program, traction control, hill hold assist, hill descent control, the Subaru BRZ also gets an array of autonomous driving assistance systems included in its EyeSight Driver Assist package.
The Subaru BRZ has got more significant updates than before, which might not make it looks drastically changed as compared to the previous model.
