Aprilia Tuono 660

The Aprilia Tuono 660 has been styled in a manner to make it look like a scaled-down version of the flagship version of the Tuono, the V4. It means that it is one of the most aggressive looking motorcycles that commands second glances wherever it goes, just like how an Italian motorcycle should look like. It is the only naked roadster in the middleweight category, which gets a semi-fairing type bodywork around the fuel tank and front fascia.

At the front, the Aprilia Tuono 660 gets a wide looking face, which looks sleek due to the arrangement of slim triple all-LED headlamps, a trademark highlight of Aprilia motorcycles and even the scooters like SXR160. This headlamp is highlighted by sharp-looking daytime running LEDs under them, which extend a bit towards the upper fascia. At the top, the fascia of the Tuono 660 has a small, slanted visor.

The fixed front fascia of the Aprilia Tuono 660 gets complemented by sharp-looking panels on the sides, which also look like extensions of the fuel tank. The fuel tank here looks big and chiselled, while being positioned above the silver-finished aluminium frame of the motorcycle. Beneath the frame, you can see the big parallel-twin engine, which is protected by additional bodywork in the form of an engine cowl under it. This engine cowl also partially hides the stubby underbody exhaust can, which has a triangular outlet at its tip.

The tail section of the Aprilia Tuono 660 has a slimmer appeal compared to its front, with its floating panel having split seats over it. At the back of the tailpiece, the Aprilia Tuono 660 gets a very small triangular LED tail lamp and a compact rear fender attached to it. The motorcycle comes with red-coloured six-spoke alloy wheels as standard.

Behind the fixed front fascia of the Aprilia Tuono 660, there is a large rectangular full-TFT instrument console, which has digital readouts for the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, gear indicator, selected ride mode, odometer, trip meters and clock.

To make the Tuono 660 a sweet handling machine as its more powerful sibling, Aprilia has tuned the 41mm Kayaba-sourced upside-down telescopic forks at the front and fully-adjustable mono-shock with aluminium asymmetric swing-arm at the rear in a slightly stiffer manner. The motorcycle is equipped with 120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear tyres and dual 320mm front and a single 220mm rear disc brakes.

The Aprilia Tuono 660 shares its four-stroke, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin, 659cc engine with its faired super sports sibling, the RS 660. This new twin-cylinder engine from Aprilia is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox and produces a maximum power output of 95 PS and a peak torque output of 67 Nm. For an engine of its size, the Aprilia Tuono 660 ranks as one of the most powerful 600-700cc class middleweight roadsters.

The Aprilia Tuono 660 is armed with a host of riding aids in its standard APRC package, which includes traction control, wheelie control, cruise control, bi-directional quick-shifter, cornering ABS, engine maps and five riding modes – three fixed and two customizable.

The Aprilia Tuono 660 is a blessing in disguise for those newer riders who wanted the prowess of a Tuono V4 in a smaller and friendlier to ride package. However, even for seasoned riders, it is power-packed with riding aids and a good amount of performance on tap.
