BMW F 900 R

The BMW F 900 R does not get the very catchy asymmetric looking front end of the mighty S 1000 R, and the overall stance and design of the motorcycle make it look very conventional. However, for a middleweight motorcycle, the BMW F 900 R has got a good visual mass, with the bulk being carried with good precision and sharpness, making it look very handsome.

At the front, the BMW F 900 R has got a diamond-shaped vertically laid full LED headlamp, which gets a double strip-like daytime running LED just in the middle of it. The all-black arrowhead-shaped visor above the headlamp completes the front fascia.

The side profile of the BMW F 900 R possesses a good character, and the chunk of the visual mass is concentrated towards the fuel tank. The fuel tank, in question here, looks beefy, with the upper part being finished in body color, while the lower one in matt black plastic. The front lower portion of the fuel tank gets sharp wishbone-shaped sleek fuel tank extensions. Another beefy element here on the side is the single-sided exhaust pipe 

The rest of the side profile of the BMW F 900 R looks curvy, with a long single piece stepped-themed seat placed over the curved tailpiece, which has been completely shared with its touring sibling, the F 900 XR. The tailpiece too gets a dual-tone theme, with the rearmost portion of it finished in a plastic theme, that ends up at the back with split pillion grab rails at the place. The rear fender attached to the tailpiece is long and also houses a good looking clear lens LED tail lamp with LED turn indicators on it too.

The full TFT rectangular instrument console is easily the fanciest looking bit of the BMW F 900 R. Packed with a very comprehensive data, the display unit shows readouts for speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meters, fuel gauge, temperature gauge and a very informative MID unit which shows all the on-going data. All these displays can be had with multiple options of display modes to choose from, making the unit look very interesting. As expected from a BMW motorcycle, the overall fit and finish levels of the body panels, including the very premium looking switchgear, are top-notch.

The BMW F 900 R gets a not too aggressive riding posture to wreck your nerves while riding for prolonged hours. Instead, the riding posture is very welcoming, with mildly rear-set footpegs and a friendly seat height of 770mm. The suspension combination of 43mm upside-down hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and central spring strut, spring pre-load hydraulically adjustable, rebound damping adjustable with cast aluminium dual swing arm at the rear. A pair of 320mm discs at the front and a single 265mm disc at the rear are deployed for braking duties.

The BMW F 900 R gets a punchy four-stroke, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, inline twin, 895cc engine. The engine, which has been paired here to a 6-speed gearbox, does pump out a maximum power output of 105 PS, while the peak torque output is rated at 92 Nm. These figures do give a strong bottom end grunt to the BMW F 900 R, making it a thoroughly enjoyable motorcycle for urban riding environment.

The BMW F 900 R is equipped with a range of safety aids, the list of which includes a dual-channel ABS, ASC, two riding modes of rain and road and adjustable brake and clutch levers, with the optional ones including adaptive curve light for headlamp, riding modes pro including ABS Pro, DTC, MSR, DBC, tire pressure control and electronic suspension adjustment.

Armed with a lengthy equipment list and a potent middleweight engine, the BMW F 900 R ticks all the right boxes. And unlike a majority of the other siblings of it, the BMW F 900 R carries a very justifiable price tag, which is a catch for the sophisticated package it offers.
