BMW is very soon to upgrade its legendary series of bikes, the R nineT series, once again. BMW Motorrad has already made several alterations and updated the R nineT models which is to hit the Philippines market in the upcoming 2021 season. The R nineT series, especially the R nineT Standard has been popular amongst Filipino bike enthusiasts ever since its launch in the market.
The R nineT series comprises four models, the RnineT (Standard), R nineT Pure, R nineT Scrambler and R nineT Urban G/S. Each of these motorcycles have undergone a few or many technical modifications, and got extensions of standard features. Along with that, the overall designs have been modified and fine-tuned as well.
If you do not already know, the R nineT is loved in the Philippines for its old-school design, the perfect classic scrambler look that the bike has along with improvised performance and refined riding experience. Let us take a look into the details of this excellently engineered classic archetype roadster from the German automakers.
With the R nineT, BMW has showcased excellent engineering and craftsmanship and has blended modern technology with the classic old-school roadster design. On the outside, the R nineT is one of the finest looking roadsters in the market.
The classic roadster design carries some really characteristic features like a fender bracket, quite a few pure aluminium parts along with seat supports, and a rear with several customization options. LED taillights and spoked wheels add to the elegance of the bike. Inspired by BMW’s roadsters of ‘70s, the motorcycle comes with an unadulterated design.
BMW has taken good care of the intricate details all over the bike, and the latest model also comes with a steel fuel tank. The single, round, analogue-digital instrument dial, paired with the round headlight, as well as the turn signals, add to the classic appeal of the bike with its modern undertones. The exclusive Option 719 range of parts is also available for the R nineT.
The bike comes with three different riding modes: Pro, Dyna (exclusive to the R nineT and R nineT Pure) and Dirt (exclusive to the R nineT Scrambler and R nineT Urban G/S) modes, which can be selected individually.
Overall, the riding experience is superior with a really smooth transmission system and a really effective suspension system on the bike. The handlebar arrangement and riding position with a 805 mm seat height, is very comfortable making the bike perfectly suitable for city traffic as well as the highways, with an additional power socket adding to convenience features on long rides. All the R nineT models are powered by a boxer engine which adheres to the latest EU-5 emission standards. Power output now peaks at 109 hp at 7,250 rpm (previously 110 hp at 7,750 rpm), while maximum torque is still 116 Nm at 6,000 rpm.
The air-cooled, flat-twin 1,170cc engine which makes 109 bhp of power at 7,250rpm (this was 110 hp at 7,75 0rpm on earlier models) and a maximum torque of 116 Nm at 6,000 rpm. This bike is capable of hitting top speeds of over 200 kmph. The exhaust note is pretty pleasing and has a distinct sound texture.
There are no overheating issues and anything about that is just a rumour. The engine runs pretty smooth and synchronised even at temperatures as high as 148 °C. The engine comes with a fail-safe system which shuts down the engine automatically when the temperature is too high.
Safety is enabled on the R Nine T by dual 320 mm discs with dual 4-piston Brembo callipers on the front wheel and a single 265mm disc with a single dual-piston calliper on the rear wheel, along with a combination of ABS Pro and Dynamic Brake Control. This ensures maximum safety during braking and enhanced stability. Other standard safety features include the WAD spring element and the special Rain and Road riding modes.
